The Deaf Community is small. The Deaf Community is tight-knit. The Deaf Community is family.
And just like any other family dynamic, you have to consider whether some bridges are worth burning - and sometimes, they are. And just like any other family dynamic, you will always have each other's backs to lean on, and shoulders to cry on.
Seeing this particular group of childhood friends come together was both endearing and heart-breaking. They attended the Celebration of Life of someone whom they have known since elementary school, and someone who was still dedicated to their growth and learning until their graduating year of highschool.
As these young adults are in a phase of their lives where they are going their separate ways to build their futures, it is heartwarming to see them gather, be comfortable being in a deeply vulnerable moment together, and have each other to always come back to. It shows the trust and respect they have for one another, and how they have found home in each other.
RIP Sir Michael Kellett. Your presence in their young lives helped shape the fine adults they are becoming. They are a part of your legacy, and they will certainly make you proud.

One of my grandpas passed away before I was born, but the rest of them passed after Teanna was born.
It was always a sad regret of mine that Teanna was never able to meet any of them in person. This is an unfortunate reality for many immigrants, as flight tickets to go back home are usually very expensive.
Grateful to have been able to do this, and hoping to be able to it more in the future!
My grandparents all have a huge influence on who I am as a person... From sassy, strong, and legit pretty badass grandmas, to family-man grandpas who had very strong work ethics. They were all proponents of family togetherness, and those values are ingrained in all of us.
If there is an afterlife, there is no doubt that they've been watching over us all these years. ❤️

June 12th only marks when the country has been free from Spanish rule in 1898. Spain sold the islands to the United States for $20million, so immediately after Spanish rule, the United States took over. We've been free from American rule since July 4, 1946. It's been less than a century since the Philippines has been fully independent, and to this day, the repercussions of colonization can be seen and felt across all generations. You see it in our economic and governmental struggles, as well as the challenge in defining our identity as a country and culture.
Nevertheless, this is where my roots lie, and I embrace it all wholeheartedly (with a side of firm boundaries, of course!). 💛🤍💙❤️

Requested a hot meal, so we went straight to where she excitedly showed us her medals and told us ALL the stories.... highs and lows of the competition, reconnecting with old friends and making new ones, and, in true fashion, a LOT of self-reflections. You've come so far in your metacognitive skills, munchkin!! 🥹❤️
Her team did such an amazing job with medals and honourable mentions!! Medals include 2 individual achievements and 3 team wins. She said other competitors for ASL Prose were extremely talented, she definitely felt challenged.. and writing is something she's not too confident in.. so both wins came as a surprise!!
That being said, my guidance still stands,: your self-worth is not based on achievements such as these. You are valuable and worthy simply because you're you. Not minimizing your academic and professional accomplishments, of course. They're good for the resumè! 😜
Now showered and in pajamas, unpacked souvenirs and gifts from friends and family on the East Coast (THANK YOU FOR THE LOVE!! 🙏🏽) and ready for snuggles and more stories.
Malakai, we love you so much, and have enjoyed every moment of having witnessed your little personality develop! At 12 months, you are observant, curious, chatty, determined, cheerful, social, a foodie, and definitely have a stubborn streak!
