‎While we almost got an Iran breakthrough on my last day (!) as Jonathan Ferro pointed out - it certainly does appear as though some form of a framework deal is imminent. I will be watching of course from afar.
‎Broadcasting daily from Dubai from Asian shows to New York, we have sought to bring you the latest on the news, analysis and context from the region over the last 3+months since the war broke out. There have been some dark moments (“end of civilization” post comes to mind) and challenges (home schooling while home broadcasting!) but throughout it all, I am very proud to have worked with our tireless team of journalists covering all aspects of this war: from energy to geopolitics to shipping to finance & economics.

I attended a ministerial level event organized by the Lebanese Embassy in the UK last night.
HE Haneen Sayed ran us through some of the latest humanitarian figures with 1 million residents still displaced alongside the pressing need for assistance. Just to give you some parallels:
- in the 2024 war, Lebanon received $700m in aid and 111 humanitarian planes arrived to drop supplies
- fast forward to today, the figures are much smaller just $260mm with 22 planes
This is a reflection of how aid distribution has dried up globally in favor of other priorities (eg defense spending).
Unfortunately the situation continues to worsen despite the ceasefire. Per IRC “An economic collapse, destruction of public infrastructure and the fallout from violence between Israel and Hezbollah have left Lebanon extremely vulnerable, especially as the country hosts the highest number of refugees per capita in the world while international support wanes.”
But it’s not all negative: HE Minister Kamal Shehadi spoke about a new initiative called “Lebanon Angel Investor Network” backed by Lebanon’s Ministry of State for Information Technology and AI (MITAI) and operated by BY Partners, a $200M global venture capital firm.
LAIN is a $5M+ fund targeting up to 50 pre-seed and seed investments of ~$100K each. Already in the first week, fund has surpassed the $5mm goal with 650 investors.
Its mandate: back Lebanese-connected founders, at home and in the diaspora, in tech and AI-enabled sector.
He is right that despite all- Lebanon boasts a wealth of talent and ambitious entrepreneurs. Some of the fastest growing companies/ unicorns today have home grown Lebanese founders: Tarek Mansour CEO of Kalshi, May Habib founder, Karim Atiyeh founder Ramp…
HE Rima Karami spoke about the challenges facing public sector education- one of the most important pillars of society, especially where in the south many schools have not just been damaged but pummelled to the ground. Again the need for funding and sponsorship there is huge.
