It’s been a year since we left the United States. It hasn’t been easy. 25 years living in a place that didn’t fully accept you. Why do we love America when it doesn’t love us back? Thankfully I’m now free to roam the Earth freely. A citizen of this planet.

Going back to Mexico after all this time was life changing. I’m still processing everyday. The food. The people. Seeing my aunts after decades. The stories of our ancestors. It’s all a beautiful cycle of remembering and paving the path for those yet to come. I’m finally getting back into my creativity. Who do we become after we exit a matrix?

The sun is finally shining in Berlin and I can see the light. For anyone in Europe or LATAM and beyond that wants to collaborate and create, hit me up. The sky really is the limit now. The borders crossed us.
Collaboration has no ceiling.

When we make intentional space for it something opens.
The people in front of the lens stop performing and start revealing.

It becomes a quiet dance between what was, what is and what’s trying to arrive.

You don’t know what it will become.
You trust it anyway.

With we followed that feeling all the way through.

In the middle of a cold Berlin winter we found light

Or maybe it found us.
Do you believe in magic?

Radical creativity lives within each of us. When did we believed we weren’t the creators?

The last year has been a meditation of transition. Both personally and creatively. For months I wasn’t able to pick up my cameras. In one hand they were in a shipping container across the Atlantic, on the other I was just blocked. My creative antenna was in survival mode. Unable to connect back to source. Now I’ve landed. Still grieving and grounding but looking towards this next chapter. I went inward to find my light again. Free.

In this process I met a dynamic DJ duo. We planned to make new press images and create. This was a blessing for all of us. For the session we wanted to show their authentic selves while surrendering to the magic of film photography. This is my favorite medium. You never know what you are going to co-create. It was an honor to see them through the lens and reflect back their own communion.

I don’t know where this next chapter is going to guide me towards, all I know is that I trust. In creation, collaboration and community.

Land of the thieves, home of the ______________
Our relationship to land shapes us. The Chinampas of Xochimilco are the lungs of Mexico that demonstrate reciprocity between our communities and the natural world. These abundant canals and gardens could not exist without human intervention. This symbiotic relationship has existed since before the Spanish invaded, and is more ancient than the Aztec empire. This message, that our communities survival is inseparable from the land, inspired much of this collection, and of the album TONATIUH. Grateful to bring this collection to life in partnership with and, with a percentage of proceeds going to empowering local chinamperos doing conservation and education work in Xochimilco today. Our Community Made collection, available now for pre-order, to minimize waste and overproduction.
COMMUNITY MADE - Designed in collaboration with + +. 💚 [link in bio] In support of Chinampa Temachtiani. 🖤

“Our community ties teach us that we are the land. This album, TONATIUH (my middle name meaning the sun in Nahuatl) inspired much of this collection through the way we rooted it in our homelands, made entirely with community in the image of our love for our people and where we come from. The stories of the album that live through this collection are also for the many of us who cannot easily return to our homelands, but refuse to forget where we are from. A vision of a free world for everyone requires an end to colonial borders, and the return of land to its traditional stewards. Chinga la migra, y cada frontera colonial desde Mexico a Palestina.” - Xiuhtezcatl

VOLUME UP 🔊🔊🔊LANDBACK by Flechas reclaims Washington Crossing the Delaware through an unsanctioned augmented reality intervention at the shifting the story from conquest to coexistence.

“This painting once spoke of conquest.
Yet the River flowed before the oars, and the Land endured before the clash of battle.
To step into the future, we must walk with balance, remembering that history is more than victories and losses.
The river carried stories long before Washington raised a flag, and it will carry countless more when his name is but a whisper.
The Earth holds truths deeper than conquest, and it is our choices that determine which stories will live on for generations to come.

Flechas is a current of thought, a whisper of the unseen.
We are everything and nothing, co-creating through this timeline as guardians of the wellbeing of all beings.”

Standing Strong is an ongoing multimedia project rooted in collaboration, community, and transformation. In 2016, Rivas spent seven months living at Standing Rock, North Dakota, documenting the resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline. That time revealed more than a protest; it was an awakening that continues to ripple outward. Through this work, Rivas questions the historical role of photography in exploiting Indigenous communities and reimagine how these same tools can be reclaimed and become transformative.

Standing Strong seeks to create spaces where Indigenous peoples can tell their own stories with authenticity and safety, carrying the strength of past, present, and future generations. Using self-portraiture, augmented reality, and public art, Rivas works to expand the lens of contemporary Indigeneity. Each collaboration, such as the recent partnership with Acosia Red Elk and BEMO, is a practice of reciprocity, where process and outcome are shaped by the person in front of the lens. These works stand as testimony, connection, and visual medicine. We are POWER.
