Thursday SOUP nights are a time of enrichment for body and soul, a chance to eat together, relax, network and share. Initially conceived in collaboration with Puppetry Supervisor, Maker and Puppeteer Daisy Beattie, the evenings provide a nourishing opportunity to hear more about the life and work of leading practitioners in and around the puppetry community. Each week a talk, slideshow, film or demonstration is presented, followed by an informal gathering.
The Curious community collectively host the evening. Under the guidance of Freddie Crossley and Carolene Ada, we make soup, working on a wholesome and mindful task, blending an array of ingredients, mixing and balancing a variety of flavours, with which to warmly welcome our visitors.
These open evenings, attended by puppeteers, directors, makers, designers, students, historians and enthusiasts, are a chance for the wider puppetry community to share and contribute to the progress of the School. They are an opportunity for introductions and contacts to be made and for deeper discussion about the direction and aspirations of the industry.

There’s something magic about the quiet focus of a stop motion shoot. I love doing smaller jobs where there are just a few of us in one space, everyone helping out and conjuring something out of nothing.
Here we are bringing Jarvis Cocker to life as a stop motion puppet in our latest piece for.
Huge thanks again to the amazing and lovely crew:

Thanks to for asking us to revisit our Sleeping Forecast brand film, with new narration and introduction from.
We got the band back together again (pun intended): Shot at the legendary Clapham Road Studios, puppet by the master puppet maker Adeena Grubb, set by the super talented Eve Bannister, cinematography by the incredible Malcolm Hadley (Wednesday, The House, Isle of Dogs), animation by the jaw-dropping Kim Keukeleire (Ma Vie de Courgette, Pinocchio, Fantastic Mr Fox), produced by the multi-talented Yoav Segal, post by the amazing folks at Gramercy Park Studios.
The whole thing was done in a few weeks and we lit, animated, comped, graded and delivered in 5 days…! Wild. The piece has already had over a million views on the BBC insta. Huge thanks and admiration to the amazing crew who poured time, skill and care into every frame.

The spot is narrated by star Charlotte Ritchie who does a reading of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in the podcast. I’ve always loved the book (and I actually acted in a stage version of when I was a kid!) plus spooky Victorian houses are my happy place, so it was really fun to be able to bring this scene to life in stop motion. We did the bit where Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his old colleague Jacob Marley.
The puppets are made by the amazingly talented and gorgeous cinematography by. I’d wanted to work with Adeena for ages and it was so fun to combine our styles. I can also say that she is the fastest puppet maker I’ve ever worked with!! I’d admired Daniel’s work for a while and it was so nice to work with him on this, he is a wizard with motion control and practical lighting and really created so much drama and depth to the spot.
Thanks so much to my old pal for thinking of me for this, it was a mad 6 week turn around! I designed, directed, built the set and animated. The whole thing was animated in x3 days! I’ll post some BTS photos soon.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped make it happen 🎄👻🔥
