Is there anything more calming than a great natural wonder, empty of people, beneath an ominous sky?
I thought about that often in and around Salamina. What if the things we’re searching for aren’t hidden in the grey murk that clouds our minds, but in the grey skies above us? In the green trees. In the screeches of parrots overhead.
I met a man there who told me, “Life is simple.” And of course I wanted to believe him, even if it meant I had been wrong to think fulfillment was hidden somewhere beyond the next mountain, the next country, the next version of myself. There was nowhere to arrive. Only life, here and now, unfolding as it always had.

December ’25. #madewithkodak
Where I was going. How it all disappeared so fast.
When I disconnected from the world— finding solace on a sunny terrace, forgetting for a moment what it meant to worry, letting go of all the things we're told are important— time felt suspended. A calm crept over me. I wondered whether I was drifting away or drawing closer. There seemed to be a strange symmetry between the two.
It reinforced something I had begun to suspect: that life moved in circles. That the idea of a beginning and an end was a lie we inherited early, one that taught us to race toward things instead of inhabit them. Peace and chaos seemed bound together. Pain and joy. Happiness and sadness. One could not exist without the other.
And yet, whenever I became truly immersed in a moment, I felt an immediate urge to escape it—to think ahead, to imagine myself somewhere else entirely. As if I had been conditioned against simply being here, now.
I desired contentment in the present, but part of me feared that letting go would lead to some future collapse. So I drifted somewhere between tenses— between who I had been and who I was becoming. Only brushing against the moment, never fully entering it.
I wondered what life could be if I finally let myself fall. 👁️

It led to moments only we could share and scenes only we could capture. I think if you walk the streets of Bari with a good attitude, a big smile, and a little bad Italian, the city can become whatever you want it to be. And that's important in a country chock full of over-touristed hotspots.
I believe that travel becomes meaningful not through the monuments or the views, but through the people willing to let you briefly into their world. In Bari, that happened everywhere we went. 🙏

I turned movement into a discipline. Built a literal escape meant to last a lifetime. Every new place was another hit, every departure another fix. Travel became the drug, and I built my identity around the high. The longer I stayed still, the worse the withdrawal. I called it purpose. I told myself it gave my life meaning. But what’s the difference between addiction and ambition? To me, they’ve always felt like two sides of the same coin--and both will drive you past the point of no return if you let them.
My ambition was always born from doubt. First theirs, then my own. I set out to prove people wrong, but proving them wrong never brought peace. Their doubts were just replaced with mine. What was I worth? Was I building something? I had money, freedom, love -- but I wanted so badly to be an artist. All I had gathered were fragments: scattered words, unfinished paragraphs, a catalogue of photographs portraying aimless chaos. My life felt like a vessel drifting without a captain, moved by whatever wind I mistook for destiny. Even though I had life by the balls in every superficial respect, I felt like a goddamn fraud.
There were two stories: the one I was living and the one I was hiding. I thought I could keep them separate, but they were never meant to coexist. They had to collide, destroy each other, and rebuild into something real.
You lose everything eventually. And if you cling too tightly, you lose yourself first. You spend your life pretending not to drown.
I am still moving. I just choose not to run.
At other times, transformation happens in isolation—in remote corners where I lose myself in reading, writing, and internal dialogue. These simple pleasures, which are universally free, feel like luxuries in our modern world. But without them—how do we come to know ourselves? Sicily has a way of making me reconsider who I am and where I’m headed. It asks me “why?”—and forces me to find an answer, even when the process is uncomfortable.
Can a place on a map truly have that kind of power? I don’t know. But there’s something undeniably special about this strange island. 🌋
