Yes it is about moderating your intensity, but it’s also about regulating your nervous system, so you can stay calm and present. If you’re tense, reactive, or in constant fight-or-flight mode, rolls can feel chaotic and unsafe. When you stay calm and controlled, your partner feels more at ease, and both of you can focus on learning.
Safety also develops with time and experience. As you train, you gain better awareness of your body, your weight distribution, and your grips. You stop moving in ways that are unpredictable or jerky, and you start to use pressure and resistance more deliberately.
