📍 This is Reis Magos Fort, built by the Portuguese in 1551, almost 50 years before Fort Aguada. It stands at the narrowest point of the Mandovi River, where it was built to guard the entrance to Old Goa. Over the centuries, it wasn’t just a fort, it also served as a residence for newly arrived Portuguese viceroys and later as a prison until 1993, before being beautifully restored into the space it is today.

We often celebrate Goa for its monsoons, its forests, its biodiversity, and the green hills that make this place what it is. But those things don’t exist in isolation. Hills hold soil together, support ecosystems, recharge groundwater, and shape the landscape we all love.
Development is important. But so is asking where we draw the line, what the long-term impact will be, and whether we’ve explored better alternatives.
Maybe it’s time we started asking the harder questions before there’s nothing left to ask about.
