Imagine not knowing the language or the culture but trying a new sport anyways 😭🩷👏🏼

Forever in awe of this girl. She started doing gymnastics consistently less than a year ago and she’s quickly become obsessed! She got a gold medal at her competition today but even if she hadn’t, I’d still be SO proud of her for being brave enough to do it 🥹👏🏼 Especially given the fact that she fought for her life in the hospital 2 years ago.

Look at her now. Look at her go 😭🥹🫶🏼
Celebrated my babies turning ELEVEN at 🥹🎉🫶🏼

It was our second time going, just for a day trip, and it was SO FUN!! We’ve never stayed overnight hut I hear that’s a must-do. We went on a studiedag so it wasn’t too busy and the most we waited for a ride was 25 minutes! The kids loveddd the Pirana water ride until Emmy got SOAKED the last time we did it 😂🙈 her face was priceless!

Maddie & Liam are such a blessing to us and I’m so grateful to get to be their mom!! So proud of the amazing little people they are becoming 🥹🫶🏼 They’re 2 of our favorite adventure buddies!!
It’s giving 90s childhood 🥹🫶🏼
19 years ago this guy asked me to be his girlfriend & exactly 5 years later, we said “I do!” 🩷

14 years of marriage sure went fast! I guess that’s what happens when you have 4 kids and decide to move your whole life abroad 🙃 I’m so grateful I get to be married to my best friend. It’s HARD but there’s no one else I’d want to navigate the hard stuff with 🫶🏼
When you ask for lemonade at a Dutch restaurant and get flavored water 😂🙈

Here’s how we make our All-American Lemonade! 🍋

Ingredients:
* 1 ¾ cups white sugar (probably less for my Dutchies who don’t like things too sweet 😉)
* 1 cup water
* 8-9 medium lemons, or more as needed
* 7 cups ice-cold water
* ice as needed

Combine sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Stir to dissolve sugar while mixture comes to a boil. Set aside to cool slightly.

Roll lemons around on your counter to soften. Cut in half crosswise, and either squeeze or use a citrus juicer. Strain out the pulp (unless you want that too!) and pour it into a pitcher. Add the water/sugar mixture to the pitcher and then fill the rest with cold water. Typically 7ish cups of water. Now enjoy!! 🍋
Definitely missing the grandparents extra during things like this 😭🩷

Part of choosing to live abroad is choosing to raise your kids away from their grandparents. And that is a tough pill to swallow. Seeing how involved grandparents are here makes me emotional and I know it’s hard for the kids to not have that. And it’s hard for us as parents knowing we CHOSE this. We do our best as parents to show up as big as we can but oftentimes I know that void is still felt. This is the bittersweet part of choosing to live abroad 😭💔
I learned what an “egel” is 😂🙈 the pronunciation of this word though 🙃

These games are good the 3 of us as we learn more Dutch! I’m so proud of the girls for their accents and pronunciation 👏🏼 If you have other game suggestions for us, drop them below!! 🇳🇱🫶🏼
Year FOUR starts NOW! 🥹🫶🏼🇳🇱

In the last 3 years, we moved our whole lives here, moved two more times, bought a 100 year old Dutch home, renovated the whole home, our kids learned Dutch, I started Dutch lessons, Michael traveled a bit for work, Maddie survived Bacterial Meningitis, Emmy broke her collarbone, Emmy rode in lots of ambulances for her breathing issues, I broke my wrist ice skating in Germany, the girls learned how to ride their bikes, the kids all started at Dutch public school, we traveled to so many countries (Germany, Belgium, France, Denmark, Morocco, Turkey, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, and of course back home to the US!), we said goodbye to Chloe 🐶, we had two Dutch doodles join the family 🐶 🐶, we had lots of family and friends come visit, we found a new church here, and we found community and so many friends who have become family.

It’s been a rollercoaster, with so many highs and soooo many lows. But God has been with us through it all and we’re so grateful for our life here in the Netherlands 🇳🇱.

Thank you for supporting and encouraging our family along the way! 🥹🫶🏼
Honestly though, it’s so fun & these will be the best memories 🥹🛷❄️

But school would’ve been cancelled Sunday night in Texas 😂

Here in the Netherlands, a lot of kids go to schools within walking distance of their homes. So when we can’t bike in the ice/snow, you’re expected to sled 😂🛷 Meanwhile all the trains are down and flights are cancelled. But school goes on 🙈😂
A lot can change in 3 years! 💕 🇳🇱 🚲

It’s so wild to me that 3 years ago today, Michael and I were walking around Haarlem together. We had this dream of raising our kids abroad and suddenly it felt really real. I remember later we were back in Amsterdam, airing along the canal outside the Anne Frank House, and we both just looked at each other and said “we’re going to do this, aren’t we”.

Now 3 years later, we’re living in our very own Dutch home, in a city we love, raising 4 kids to be Dutchies 🥹💕 The hard bits are HARD, but this life, this adventure, is oh so sweet 🫶🏼

Thank you SO much to everyone who’s been on this wild ride with us. We’re so grateful for you!🥹
