Chasing the northern lights for the past 10 years has taught me that the night is changing.. fast. It’s getting harder to find dark sky due to light pollution and when you do, with the sudden increase in satellites the view is changing. I’ve also realized how important the night is not just for humans, for so many things on earth. The night needs a voice and it needs to be protected.

I love travelling to the epic landscapes of the world and seeing how the night looks and feels different. However there is no better feeling then enjoying this view right from home. It’s the reason why I got into this over a decade ago.. it’s where my journey all began and I’m proud of living in a rural and remote corner of Saskatchewan where the air is clean, the skies are dark and the aurora just adds to the unexpected beauty of it all 💙💚

As we sailed out of port in Tromsø with the sky was dancing in every direction! So exciting to see and watch with so many people that have never seen the aurora before with what a show we got!

What a weekend it was - having booked this camping trip months ago there was no way of knowing THIS would happen!
We lucked right out. The weather was hot and clear as we camped right along the lake. I was out of cell service with no way of knowing how the aurora data was developing…
It was a beautiful surprise.
The #northernlights would be showing intense colours just an hour and a half after the sun went down. And lasted all night… for 3 nights in a row! It was truly unbelievable, exciting, mesmerizing and exhausting but I would do it again in a second! What an incredible long weekend it was…

To stand under a sea of stars in one of Canada’s largest sand dunes had been on my list for awhile.. The Great Sand Hills is the second largest sand dune in Canada and in Saskatchewan; the largest being Athabasca up north.
After a failed attempt last year getting Astro shots at this location, I was determined to make it work again. I drove over 7 hours and was happy to find I had the place to myself as I woke up to my alarm and hiked out just before dark.
Having scouted out the location during the day I knew approximately where I was headed in the dark. These near perfect ripples in the sand were formed by the insane winds earlier that day. I was lucky to find the wind calmed and the sky mostly clear as I hiked into the sand dunes that night to set up.
Wanting to capture the immensity of the sky, or how small it actually makes you feel.. standing in the stardust 🤩
