I haven’t been around so many desi women since high school, let alone travelled to the other end of the world with a group of women I don’t know! 10 days, 15 women and 3 cities was what I needed to factory reset and see a version of myself I didn’t know existed.
All the pakis around me had known me for 20+ years and clearly haven’t moved past the version of me they knew at 16. If I hadn’t been in Vietnam, if I hadn’t been around these women, if we hadn’t sat down and shared what we thought when we first saw each other versus what we think now, I wouldn’t have gotten that jolt back to reality and I’d still be crying about feeling isolated, depressed and miserable in both a city I couldn’t stand (no, not NYC lol) and desperate to find a way to leave a guy that was wrong from me from the get go. More importantly, I wouldn’t have seen myself for who I am and how people feel my energy today, instead of letting people depress me with their jokes about how I am based on how I was decades ago. Factory reset was needed to remind me that I don’t need to shrink myself and what I want from life to “fit” in nor stay with a man who has nothing to offer bec I’m scared of being judged.

I don’t know what these savior complex folks thought when we said from the river to the 🌊.
