Pequeño, inquieto y lleno de carácter.
El soterrey nuquirrufo es de esas aves que rara vez pasan desapercibidas cuando finalmente deciden quedarse quietas unos segundos frente al lente.
Su combinación de tonos cálidos, el detalle de su plumaje y esa mirada tan expresiva hacen que cada encuentro sea una oportunidad para detener el tiempo y observar lo que normalmente ocurre entre ramas y hojas.
Una pausa breve… antes de que vuelva a desaparecer entre la vegetación.

🇺🇸 Keel-billed toucan
🆔 Ramphastos sulfuratus
Su plumaje negro contrasta con el amarillo del cuello y pecho; su piel alrededor del ojo es verde, iris y tarsos azules, pico largo y aserrado color verde claro con una combinación de tonos azul y amarillo, destacando la punta de color anaranjado-rojizo.
Se alimenta de frutas principalmente. Son importantes agentes dispersores de semillas que ayudan a la regeneración de las selvas tropicales y de los hábitats en los que viven. Mide 46 cm.
Es el ave nacional de Belice.

Es endémico de Costa Rica y el oeste de Panamá.
