I can’t put words to Japan.
I am still processing. Like what Anthony Bourdain once said on his first visit: it was a “powerful and violent” experience. Same! Not in the literal sense, but in how deeply it shook something inside me. Japan changed the way I see the world. How order can be beautiful, how precision can feel like kindness and how even the smallest gestures can carry quiet grace.
Japan was everything. Everything!
It’ll take me a long time to process all of it. The perfection, the peace in the most busiest, the precision. The lines at the station that actually move, the trains with 0 min delay (my traumatized German commuter soul is still crying), the triangle sandwiches from Family Mart, the curry bread from 7-Eleven, and Lawson’s onigiri… oh the onigiri. I miss them so much I don’t think I can even talk about it.
Every single person polite to the core, vending machines on every corner like little gifts from heaven, matcha so good my soul literally left my body for a few seconds. Public pianos, pedestrian crossings that felt like choreography, designated smoking spots I now weirdly miss, and the underground lines everyone actually follows.
The chaotic beauty of Don Quijote, the love hotels with neon secrets, cheap watered-down drinks that somehow still hit, and silk kimonos that felt so good on my skin it almost turned spiritual (and a little sexual)
Everything was clean. Everything made sense.
And the toilets… let’s just say I will never, ever sit the same way again.
Japan, you are such a beauty. I will certainly come back. Not just to visit but to relive the way you made me feel.
