So, today, I had the chance to deliver this commission in person. There was so much heart put into the painting that was created to capture the atmosphere of my client’s pop-up-storm infused wedding day, that I leapt out of the car when I saw her and gave her a big hug.
Never met her in my life. 😬
Needless to say it was such an honor and enjoyable creative experience to reflect on photos from her wedding day and merge them all into this atmospheric painting to commemorate the day. 💕✨

I turn 40 in a few months.
Painting calms me and also makes me deeply aware of the reality that there will never be enough time or moments or words or actions or resources to experience what life has for us.
After our son died in utero, I had a dream about him where I saw all of who he was and could be all at once. Every age, every stage, every moment, layered into one visual plane that I still can’t quite describe.
And with the loss of my mom, I come back to that dream — the notion that all is happening all at once in a way that isn’t quite describable by human minds and words.
It’s otherworldly. Heavenly. Universal. God-given or god-related.
Somehow my mind is more at ease with an experience that cannot be contained than one that is fully understood.
I do believe I’ll never run out of things to ponder, think, or paint…
when the light finds something it wasn’t meant to reach.
It softens it.
Reveals it.
Changes it.
This painting lives in that space.
between shadow and illumination,
between holding on and letting go,
between what’s hidden… and what can’t stay hidden anymore.
I’ve been drawn lately to painting not just a place,
but the feeling of being inside one
when the air is thick,
the sky is moving,
and something just beyond you is about to break open.
This piece is still unfolding,
but it already feels like one of those
that stays with you longer than you expect.

My darling momma could use your prayers.
For the past 3 years, 1 month, and 2 weeks she has fought one of the toughest battles ever known. Pancreatic cancer didn’t have a clue what it was getting itself into when it chose my mom…
In the face of a six-month-turned-three-month prognosis, she showed up with the strength of all the generations of women in our bloodline who boldly refused to give up when things got tough.
Her innate tenacity coupled with a fierce belief in the goodness of God has carried her this far, and we are beyond grateful for every day she chose to fight.
And yet, we are not promised eternity on this earth.
Mom is spending her last days at home just like she wanted.
Please pray she is overcome with peace and that her final moments are met with overwhelming love. ✨
Even when everything else feels uncertain, this space holds me. My art studio is messy, layered, alive… and reminds me that creating isn’t something I choose to do.
It’s something I *have* to do.
When life feels heavy or unclear, I come back to the process. Not to make something perfect. Not to make something sellable. But to make something.
This time it was a roll of paper and a few quiet rules:
— one continuous line
— when one hand gets tired, switch to the other
— when the paper runs out, roll out more
— don’t stop until the need fades
No measuring. No outcome. No pressure.
Just movement. Just mark making. Just processing the world around me.
There’s something freeing about knowing I don’t have to keep it. I can roll it up. I can set it aside. I can let it exist as part of my creative practice without needing it to become anything more.
And maybe that’s the point.
The light is on.
And I’ll keep showing up.

Artists are more than just painters and sculptors.
They’re writers, musicians, dancers, crafters, tailors…
They’re the ones who are willing to try even when the outcome is uncertain because they’re willing to fail and/or adjust.
A “mistake” or roadblock is not a period, but an invitation to turn left when something didn’t go right.
This morning, I noticed new light.
My home studio does not have ideal painting light. It’s dark and the overheads lean umber leading me to rely on extra lamps that are too harsh… casting shadows or reflecting shine.
But in our bathroom? Gorgeous.
Soft, natural light.
It makes a difference ✨
Look for the light.
And may the light find you even in the shadows…
