I started with the Townsend Shirt pattern and followed Lauren’s tutorial to hack it into a dress, extending the shirt by 60 cm and adding a waist seam to create a shirt dress silhouette. I also included angled patch pockets and side vents, which give it a little extra practicality and movement while keeping the clean look that drew me to the pattern in the first place.
The fabric is Lara Linen in Ocean from. The colour is beautiful and the linen has just the right amount of structure for this style. It presses well, wears comfortably, and feels polished enough for the heat and humidity it endured in the last 2 weeks.
This dress ticks all my workwear boxes. It’s comfortable, provides good sun coverage, and totally smart and stylish. The relaxed fit paired with the crisp shirt details makes it easy to wear and style. Maybe I’ll make a stripey one next??

I made the shirt view in size 36 with no adjustments, and I’m very happy with the fit straight out of the envelope. The fabric is the iconic black and white digits cotton poplin, which felt like the perfect match for this pattern. The poplin has enough structure to hold the silhouette nicely, but it’s still soft and comfortable to wear. Also a bliss to sew with, it’s such an enjoyable make.
The details are what really make this shirt for me. I love the oversized pockets and the split hem finish. Simple details, but they make the whole garment feel polished and cool. Definitely one of those projects that comes together into something even better than you imagined. I can’t wait to make the dress view soon!

I’m between size 2 and 3, so of course I spent ages painstakingly grading an in-between size… only to discover it was probably completely unnecessary 😂 A straight size 2 likely would have fit perfectly. Note to future me for next time. It’s a bit loose now and I’m tempted to add a waist tie. One day…
The drape of this fabric is so lovely with the bias cut. It moves beautifully, but it does raise the eternal bias dress question: what are you supposed to do with your hands when there are no pockets? A true love-hate relationship.
I adore this fabric though and would absolutely sew this pattern again. Next time I’d love to try it in something with a bit more structure to bring the statement sleeves to life.

I cut a size 2 for the bodice and graded to a size 3 for the skirt. For the front, I didn’t cut mirrored pieces. I extended the left front panel by 3cm from the waist down, which gave me about 7cm more coverage under the curved wrap on the right. That change alone made it feel much more wearable. I shortened the skirt by 5 cm and added 1cm at the front bodice shoulder and tapered it back to the waist to give a bit more coverage through the chest. I added inseam pockets as well, of course. They fit nicely into the skirt without disrupting the shape.
The bodice could use more tweaking, but I’m actually quite happy with this first version. Papercut dresses don’t usually fit me particularly well straight out of the packet, so this feels like progress. If I make it again, I would add a strap across the back to help keep the shoulders from slipping - narrow shoulders problem!
The fabric is a gorgeous red/white gingham cotton linen lycra blend from from circa 2021. It has a bit of structure which really shows in the sleeves and helps hold the overall silhouette. I love how sculptural it feels.
I keep thinking about what I would change next time, which probably means there will be another version soon.

I was sick half of April so not many outfits shared. 😬
#StudyHallShawl by is a free pattern! It’s one of those projects that looks complicated but isn’t. After a while the rhythm really settles in, which made it such an easy travel knit. I kept coming back to it in between other makes, and I’m so glad I did. The mosaic sections and basketweave texture have that quiet, satisfying interest I always enjoy.
Yarn is 4ply merino in Gold + Graphite pulled from stash and which slots perfectly into my winter wardrobe.

This is the No.24 jacket by Mizuyo Uno: a cropped, oversized, unlined style from the Japanese sewing book 着たい服は自分で作る (ISBN ). Swipe to see the book cover and styled images.
Fabric is “Vision” cotton nylon in the “coffee” colourway from. It has just the right amount of structure while still feeling light, which really suits this silhouette. I love how it turned out! Short, light, slightly oversized, and perfect for layering through autumn.

This issue’s theme is Nordic Summer, which feels surprisingly fitting as we ease into Autumn here in Australia. The temperature is probably the same 😆! The timing of this issue’s Make & Share couldn’t have been better! I finished my #TAUKOgerda just in time to take it along on my Singapore trip.
Gerda is designed by Copenhagen based designer. It is such a classy, quietly beautiful pattern. It sits at a high waist, creating that soft blousy effect through the bodice, balanced with a semi-fitted ankle length skirt. It can also be made lined or unlined, making it quite versatile depending on fabric choice.
I used a Japanese tencel from, which gives it the loveliest drape, perfect for this silhouette.
Check out the other beautiful patterns in this issue! I also really like Crest, and More Frills Pls. So many sewing projects, so little time!

I love sewing the mitred corners, so satisfying. The fabric has a loose weave, but being double layered it was still quite manageable.
I made view C in a size A with no adjustments. I really should make a size B, but since I rarely close the front (and, truthfully, I’m too lazy to print and cut the pattern again), size A it is 🤣
I think the fabric give off a bit of a dressing gown vibe… but honestly, I’m leaning into it. Overall, such a fun and satisfying project.
