CAUGHT BY THE RIVER

Saturday 2nd of May 2026
Kingston, Near Lewes, Sussex

Caught by the River is an arts/nature/culture clash which lives at.

It began as an idea, a vision and a daydream
shared between friends one languid bankside spring afternoon.
Conceived as an online meeting place for pursuits of a distinctly non-digital
variety — walking, fishing, looking, thinking, birdsong and beer, adventure
and poetry; life’s small pleasures, in all their many flavours — it was, and
still is, about stepping out of daily routines to re-engage with nature.
Finding new rhythms. Being.

Caught by the River is ever-morphing, widening its tastes and pool of
contributors.
The site – and its various offshoots, including gigs, festival stages and the Rivertones record label – host work in many forms and
flavours, be it of a musical, poetic, creative non-fictional, photographic or
illustrative description, or otherwise.

THE WORLD WE WANT (WWW)
ART FOR PLANET AND PEACE
10th & 11th April,2026

The Royal Over-Seas League
Over-Seas House, Park Place
St James’s Street, London, SW1A 1LR

I’m pleased to be exhibiting amongst other artists with my artwork: Cardinal, at The World We Want (WWW): Art for Planet and Peace. Organised by The World Academy of Art and Science. Curated by

My practice explores the interconnected relationships between plant life, fungi, and mycelial networks while reflecting on how these living systems offer models of balance, resilience, and coexistence in response to global environmental challenges.

The World Academy of Art & Science (WAAS) was founded in 1960 by eminent intellectuals including Robert Oppenheimer, Father of Manhattan Project; Bertrand Russell; Albert Einstein (posthumously); Joseph Needham, co-Founder of UNESCO; Lord Boyd Orr, first Director General of FAO; Brock Chisholm, first Director General of WHO and many others. The Academy serves as a forum for reflective scientists, artists, and scholars dedicated to addressing the pressing challenges confronting humanity today independent of political boundaries or limits, whether spiritual or physical — a forum where these problems can be discussed objectively, scientifically, globally, and free from vested interests or regional attachments to arrive at solutions that affirm universal human rights and serve the common good of all humanity. WAAS is founded on faith in the power of original and creative ideas — Real Ideas with effective power — to change the world.

I’m delighted to be part of TONIC: A Medicinal Flora & Fauna Exhibition at, 600 Pine Street, Seattle, Washington, USA.

This group show brings together artists exploring the healing power, beauty and complexity of medicinal plants and animals. A theme deeply rooted in my own practice, where flora and fauna intertwine through layered mixed media collage.

There’s something about walking slowly through the woods that steadies everything.

The air feels different there. Softer. Older. It has place. You begin to notice the small things. Birds calling in the canopy above, and for a moment, nothing is urgent.

This piece was born from that feeling.
I sometimes forget to just stand still.
Reminding myself that grounding isn’t something we chase, it’s something we return to.

May this work feel like a pause. A breath. A small woodland moment you can step into.

🍄 Curators’ Interview and Exhibition Preview
How does an exhibition about fungi come to life – from Ötzi’s time to the present day?
In our curators’ interview, Brazilian mycologist Mariana Villani (Cardiff University) and artist Jana Nicole (UK) talk about the development of the special exhibition “Fungi – The Cultural History of Fungi from Ötzi to Today”, which will open at the archeoParc on 4th July 2026.
In the interview, Villani shares insights into the scientific foundations of the exhibition, the crucial role fungi played in Ötzi’s survival, and the significance of the Schnalstal Valley as an alpine ecosystem.
“From the very beginning, our goal was to make the world of fungi accessible and meaningful to the public,” says the mycologist.
A central element of the exhibition is the artistic installation by Jana Nicole, which opens up additional, sensory approaches to the topic through visual storytelling.
The artist adds: “Through visual storytelling, I want to invite visitors to take a closer look and rediscover the special relationship between humans and nature.”
The exhibition is curated by Mariana Villani and museum director Johanna Niederkofler, and uniquely combines research, cultural mediation, and art.
