🙏 Guma provided me with shelter, along with other stranded Burners during the first big rainstorm at the event, so I will always have a soft spot for the creation!
🌀 It stood out on the playa and always gave me rich nostalgic vibes, a real sense of wonder - maybe it was the whimsical almost cartoon-like style, or the fact it was a big green dinosaur. Harper Clark the artist describes it as:

👉🏻 This was a monumental art piece on many accounts. Most notably, it had the element of immediacy as it’s life on the playa was short lived after blowing away during the pre-event dust storm that destroyed many camps and art.
🌅 That morning, I decided to ride out, but I was on the fence about going. There was so much closer art being built I didn’t have to ride that far. My mind kept making excuses: “Just wait until they finish,” and “Just get it later or tomorrow.” However, immediacy in me kicked in. Now is always better. You just never know. Maybe it was Larry on my shoulder as a third angel giving me playa advice. Whatever it was, I’m beyond glad I did go as some of the shots and the videos I have from this scene are some of the only drone shots in existence of this amazing artwork.
The Black Cloud symbolized the many threats we all face, whether as individuals or as a global collection - and how they are often unspoken or unnoticed until they’re suddenly at our doorsteps. By giving these looming perils a tangible, physical form, the artist hoped to spark honest conversations about how to address them before they become overwhelming
It was 30 meters long, inflatable and featured flashing lightning and an immersive soundscape of real war recordings. It also had plans to disperse real gunpowder smell around it.
Although the cloud warns of instability, it also offers a gathering point where we can find camaraderie, and hope—reminding us that, together, we can adapt, resist, and shape a better future.
Coined as the ‘Desert Blackberry’ it was the fruits of a great team and artist.
