Un día entré a Encarta y puse “saxofón”. Me metí a dicho artículo y no sé si recuerden, pero muchos artículos venían con algún audio o canción de fondo. En el artículo del saxofón venía esta fotografía que decía “Sonny Rollins”, acompañada de la pieza que puse en esta publicación: “St. Thomas”, de su autoría.
Al escuchar el timbre del saxofón de Sonny Rollins, acompañado de esta pieza que a mi parecer es excelente, pues a pesar de que tiene una progresión y una melodía bastante digerible, siempre se me ha hecho de las más complicadas para tener una improvisación sabrosa como la de Sonny. En ese momento supe que el sax era el instrumento que quería tomar en la carrera.
El día de ayer, Sonny Rollins falleció. No es una pérdida cualquiera. Es un antes y después en el jazz, ya que él era el último sobreviviente de esta oleada de “leyendas del jazz”, después del fallecimiento de Benny Golson hace dos años.
Gracias por haberme mostrado un instrumento tan hermoso como el sax y por enriquecer casi todos mis días con tu música. 🙏

Este no pensaba subirlo pronto pero pues que chingados. Estar ahí fue algo que no podía creer y no quería desaprovechar la oportunidad de hacer algo con mi música en ese lugar tan icónico. La canción se llama “Esclavo 1” (Sí, como la nave de Boba Fett)

La verdad es que no sabía qué hacer con él. Lo grabé pensando que sería parte de otro video o algo así, pero nomás se quedó en mi galería existiendo, así que mejor lo subo de una vez.
Todo el video tiene de fondo una canción mía, “Farra-On”, la cual tiene un video oficial de verdad, pero bueno… acababa de comprar ese darbuka —el cual estoy agarrando mal y por eso tampoco lo quería subir, cosas mías— y sentí que le iba muy bien a la canción.
Para grabarlo clarito, escondí una grabadora de bolsillo dentro de mi ropa. Si ponen atención, se escucha el viento desértico de fondo. Luego junté el audio de la grabadora con la mezcla original de la canción y después la remastericé.

Ayer fue uno de esos días raros y, por alguna razón, ya sabía que esto me iba a ayudar. Desde que desperté tenía en la cabeza que tenía que pintar algo.
Igual y suena equis lo que estoy diciendo, pero quería compartir la reflexión que tuve porque estas cosas estaban ahí todos los días frente a mis ojos. A veces pensaba que jamás las iba a usar, y se me hizo curioso cómo, en un día en el que no tenía ganas de hacer nada, me nació hacer algo tan complicado. Al menos así lo sentí, porque nunca había pintado.
Y a pesar de la “pesadez” de hacer algo nuevo, esa misma novedad fue justo lo que me sacó de la apatía.
Al final terminé pintando el cuadro de Bob-omb Battlefield de Mario 64 👾
