45 meters of structural precision.
At the heart of Can Sellarès is a major technical challenge: a steel roof spanning more than 45 meters without interior columns. These large-scale trusses create a completely open and adaptable space capable of supporting multiple uses, from sports and education to cultural and civic activities. Integrated photovoltaic panels transform the roof into an energy-producing infrastructure, while the lightweight canopy provides shade, natural ventilation and environmental comfort year-round. Engineering, sustainability and public space merged into one single gesture.

Landscape, Memory and Green infrastructure.
Can Sellarès reconnects the Ponent neighborhoods through a new network of public space, vegetation and community infrastructure. The project combines shaded outdoor areas, climbing greenery and permeable public routes to create a resilient green environment that improves biodiversity and urban comfort. At the center of the intervention, the historic Can Sellarès farmhouse is preserved and reintegrated into everyday public life, linking heritage with contemporary urban transformation. More than a sports facility, the project becomes a living green infrastructure for the neighborhood.

A new civic climate shelter.
Nestled within the grounds of Can Sellarès, the project transforms a former football field into an open civic landscape for the Ponent neighborhoods. Defined by a large-span steel canopy, it creates a permeable climate shelter conceived for everyday public life beyond sports. The open and flexible structure encourages civic appropriation, enabling the space to accommodate sports, cultural activities, and community events throughout the year beneath a single urban roof. Landscape, shade, and accessibility become the project’s primary architectural tools, turning the intervention into a new social landmark for the city.

Design for disassembly.
Material choices articulate a broader environmental position. Timber introduces a renewable structural layer, while precast concrete regulates performance and structural continuity. Connections remain readable and accessible, allowing components to be separated without loss of value. Cyclability becomes a design parameter embedded in detailing rather than an added narrative. The emerging structure proposes a building conceived as a material reservoir prepared for future transformation. Construction reveals architecture not as completion, but as a reversible state within a longer lifecycle of use, recovery and reconfiguration.

Mataró 2019-ongoing
The section unveils the stacked nature of the building structure, revealing a clear stratification between mass and lightness: precast concrete is sunken into the ground, forming a stable, inert base, while CLT rises above as a lighter, renewable superstructure.

Structure precedes form.
At Parc Circular Mataró Maresme, cross laminated timber and precast concrete define a constructive order where space emerges from assembly rather than enclosure. The structural grid establishes a neutral framework capable of accommodating evolving programs without altering its logic. Prefabrication ensures precision while reducing material impact through controlled production. The building is conceived as an open system, where construction anticipates adaptation and permanence is reconsidered as continuity through change.
During this phase, architecture becomes legible as a sequence of relationships between material, structure and time.

The project transforms the ground floor into a permeable covered plaza structured by a central public axis that organizes circulation and program. New uses adapt to the historic building through reversible furniture and autonomous elements, allowing flexibility without altering its architectural identity. Environmental comfort is improved through natural ventilation, solar control, and high-efficiency energy systems, integrating sustainability and heritage preservation while redefining the building as an active cultural and scientific infrastructure.

Following a competition win, JAAS has been appointed to restore and renovate Barcelona’s Natural History Museum, housed in Lluís Domènech i Montaner’s Castell dels Tres Dragons.
The project opens the ground floor through the center of the building, restoring its original permeability and completing the historic sequence connecting the Umbracle, the Martorell Centre, and the Hivernacle. A continuous public axis crosses the Castell dels Tres Dragons, reconnecting architecture, park, and city while reinforcing its role within the scientific and cultural landscape of the Ciutadella. The intervention reorganizes circulation through a clear and reversible strategy that enhances heritage value while activating new spaces for encounter, culture, and collective experience.

Following a competition win, JAAS has been appointed to restore and renovate Barcelona’s Natural History Museum, housed in Lluís Domènech i Montaner’s Castell dels Tres Dragons.
Built in 1888 for the International Exhibition, the building was originally conceived as a temporary restaurant and café for the event. Despite its provisional purpose, it became one of the most emblematic works of Catalan Modernisme.
After 15 years closed to the public, we will take on the highly demanding task of restoring the building to its original state and reopening it as a vibrant public space, combining a science museum, lecture halls, a restaurant, and a shop.
We could not be more honoured and humbled by the responsibility of caring for such an extraordinary piece of architectural heritage.

The interiors of Torre Bertran reveal a refined modernist domesticity articulated through Raumplan, material and ornament. The building unfolds through a sequence of generous rooms organized around a grand double-height space that gives the house its civic and social character.
Original fireplaces, crafted timber elements and carefully proportioned openings create an atmosphere of warmth and intimacy, despite the scale of the architecture. The rehabilitation preserves these qualities while enhancing comfort and accessibility, allowing historic character and contemporary use to coexist naturally.
