Thank you, June. You were full of questions, unexpected encounters, work, play, friendship, movement, and so much life. I’m leaving for Turkey with a full heart tomorrow. 🌿
Come! to our summer celebration this Friday.
There will be music by and cake and lemonade.
July 3, 18:30 - 19:30 Uhr, Garden of UdK, Mierendorffstraße 30.
A little thank you post 🤍

Today I want to say thank you to Jamila and Jakob.

For the past year and a half, they have been holding and nurturing with so much care. While I was away, they facilitated sessions, organized summer gatherings, hosted a book club, and with their efforts this year we even received a small UdK grant that allows us to continue our workshops.

It has never been a one-person project. It has always been a community, sustained by friendship, generosity, curiosity, and people showing up for one another.

Thank you, JJ team
Love you both 🩷

Last month, I facilitated two workshops at Borusan Contemporary as part of Edward Burtynsky’s Shifting Topography exhibition.

Starting from Burtynsky’s photographs on erosion, transformation, and humanity’s impact on the Earth, we reflected together on art, ecology, and more-than-human thinking. Participants explored their roots, sense of belonging, and relationships of care through drawing and conversation.

To conclude, everyone left with a seed and an intention.

What stayed with me most was not teaching, but the power of thinking together, listening deeply, and imagining new possibilities.

My heartfelt thanks to the Borusan Contemporary team and all participants for making these gatherings so meaningful. 🌱

Wonderful day with architecture students at TU Braunschweig yesterday.

After sharing my work on art, protest, ecology, and the other garden, we moved from discussion to action.

Students were invited to imagine a small intervention that could transform how a space is normally used. The result was a series of playful, performative, and thoughtful actions that challenged the relationship between bodies, architecture, and institutions.

Thank you for this invitation Prof. Tatjana Schneider and Burcu Dağlayan and the participants for your curiosity, creativity, and courage to experiment. 🌿

Deli miyim? Galiba. 💚🩵
“But you don’t look Turkish.” A sentence that seems casual, yet carries layers of expectation, projection, and exclusion. In BUT YOU DON’T (2018), Işıl Eğrikavuk turns this recurring remark back onto those who utter it. Who defines what a nationality should look like? What assumptions shape our perception of identity?

Drawing on Sara Ahmed’s reflection that being asked “Where are you from?” often marks one as not belonging, the work exposes how everyday questioning can become a subtle form of othering. Eğrikavuk’s photographs do not provide answers; instead, they mirror the gaze, confronting viewers with their own biases and inherited stereotypes.

You can see the work in our current exhibition until the 31st of May: Bosporus Beats - Views of Istanbul from 1500 to 1800.

In BUT YOU DON’T (2018) spiegelt Işıl Eğrikavuk diese wiederkehrende Bemerkung an ihre Urheber*innen zurück.
