Short days, less light, dark and gloomy sky’s and cold temps….means our poor indoor plants (of which most are of the tropical variety and love light and warmth) can really suffer.
Light is key, it’s the number one most important thing when it comes to having healthy plants 👍🏼
Move them to your brightest window, give them warmth and direct sun for a couple of months until the days become longer.
Winter sun is the best thing ever and won’t burn the leaves ☺️

Still here, still bucket soaking, still swear by it 🙌🏻
AND it was such a glorious afternoon for playing with plants! ☀️ And please enjoy my head getting tangled in the leaves at the end 👍🏼😆
So a few tips to remember…..
1. DO NOT pot directly in to your decorative pots. They are decorative and don’t have enough (if any) drainage. Water will often pool in the bottom and they become too heavy to lift resulting in either over or under watering - and a water damaged floor!
2. Let your plants soak for 2-24hrs. The bigger the plant the longer I soak and with this giant Fiddle it will usually take up all 9 litres in 24hrs. Plants CAN sit in water for 24hrs and this is not overwatering. So long as you let the soil dry out again between soaks/drinks for a couple of weeks to get oxygen back around the roots they will be AOK. Overwatering applies to frequency (ie every day) not the amount of water we give it at one time.
3. Never just “bottom water” your big plants. They are often too deep and the root system too big for them to soak water right to the top of the soil. Always drench from top down.
4. Avoid giving your plants a measured amount of water each week. I often hear people say they’d been giving their plant a cup of water a week and it was fine for so long - until it wasn’t 😢 Plants can tolerate neglect and abuse for months before they start to show signs of stress. Get in to good habits early and they will continue to thrive (hopefully) forever 💚
5. Get someone to help you lift if you’re not comfortable or able to do it by yourself.

5 months and 1 week in fact 😳
Tbh, it’s taken some time to heal after last years devastation of being kicked out of our premises and losing it all 😩 It’s been a rough road, not gunna lie.
But, after a nice long social media detox and lots of time with the fam I’m finally ready to check back in and say hi….👋🏼
Apart from losing Sunny in January (our little chocolate Spoodle) after 15 years 😢 and leaving her brother, Toshy behind…. it’s been a pretty good start to the year.
I’m still doing styling jobs here and there but taking it easy, consciously slowing down and clearing out my space….still lots to go as you can see (cushions! 🫣). But I must admit I’m loving the time back with my girls, having weekends back and enjoying normal conversations with Stu that don’t always revolve around business.
One thing is for sure, my love of greenery is still going strong 🫶🏻
And so is Daisy 🦎….be sure to watch til the end, she’s grown a lot!
Special shout out to all the fabulous women (on this International Women’s Day) that I’ve met along the way ☺️ I really miss seeing all your beautiful faces every day.
Hope you’re all spectacularly well and life is filled with all the good stuff.
Sending love,
Marita xxx
