The first week of a trip always flies by, as travel and recovery from travel eat up the first couple of days. Then there is the ‘getting the bearings’ day, somewhat akin to finding one’s sea legs.
We always intended to have a pretty chilled first week, to regroup after a busy year on the work front. Flying into Kuala Lumpur, we explored the city for a couple of days before heading north up to Phuket, a strategic move to give us a real rest in the sun before working our way all the way south back to KL.
We succumbed to some proper touristing here and took a day trip to Phi Phi, which we enjoyed despite the crowds. It’s a shame that mass tourism has reached so many places now, but we aim to get off the paths more travelled (although not as much as on the bike trip..).
We will hopefully indulge in a few days on two wheels as we head south, and will catch up with an old Bon Papillon customer/pal at our next-but-one stop 🧡🤗
Today was all about knitting (sock) route planning and eating as much fruit as humanly possible. Always grateful when we manage to get away and refil the energy / art inspo / fruit reserves. 🌞🦇🧡🏝️
I kind of love the first few days of a trip when the brain is playing catch up and the body is in a state of shock. I sleep while Stuart reads for hours, then we swap and he finally falls asleep in the hours before dawn while I write dodgy haikus and process the day. Us jigsaw pieces.
.
It was interesting to see how possible it was accommodate my creative practice while travelling by bike in 2024; read all about it in the new edition of published shortly😉.
.
This time we are (largely) on foot, beginning yesterday in Kuala Lumpur.

We’re off for a bit of a travel.. We do really like winter in the UK, it’s just a coincidence that we always arrange our trips for this time of year😬
.
Watch out for the article about my last trip (the big cycle in 2024) and how it affected my art practice. Out later this month!
.
I’ll be at the, my first fair of the year!
See you then and if anyone gets a copy of Pressing Matters please make me a wee film of the article! Best one wins an original print 😉🤩
First of the year. ‘Sakura Western Boots’.
A bit of brush, a lot of lino offcuts-as-palette-knife and some lino print.
Letting the icing-thick paint dry before whipping it off from studio (bedroom) to Stuart’s framing area (living room).
We are taking a break soon, so this fella is going to join my stash in storage, to emerge in time for the 🧡
.
Looking forward to making lots of new things this year. Stu is busy reading the first draft of my book, so that is a thing now too..🤠
.
Happy new year and enjoy the snow, those who have it! And watch out for the wolf moon tonight.

Despite the onset of a seasonal lurgy which made its unwelcome presence felt today, I managed a surprisingly productive end to 2025. Finished a painting thanks to some actual natural light (deet in pic one), knitted a bit more scarf and, in an unexpected late surge, filled the last official gap in my manuscript!
Next year will therefore see the welcome change from writing to editing, alongside continued activity in the painting and printmaking areas.
But first, a rest. We are far too hard on ourselves these days and I for one spend far too little time in restorative mode.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy new year, and good stuff for the next circuit🙏🎉🧡
26th December is more than Boxing Day to me, and this year is particularly special.
I’ve now been sober for twenty years.
.
We took a walk up a hill, as has become traditional, and I had no idea how I would feel.
Or indeed if.
Interestingly it did have a real impact on me this year, and I felt very strongly the weight of time and how decisions can alter life. But most of all I felt huge waves of gratitude at everything I have been able to do with these years, which I am sure would have been impossible had I chosen the other path.
.
Thanks everyone who stuck around. X
.
🧡🙏
After a year on the road in 2024, 2025 was still about travelling, in a manner. I scooted around the country showing and selling at some amazing new (to me) fairs, some old favourites and a book launch.
I’m already working hard for 2026, and the 2025 edition was a great start to this year.
Amazing markets with in Newcastle and Manchester also resulted in an award from /, who I’m now a member of 🧡
The London launch of ‘s amazing book was a real highlight, as was seeing my book jacket in the shops all year.
I started showing paintings and prints at and went down to have a look around their gorgeous space.
Really enjoyed and a couple of outings in Glasgow and Edinburgh with and finished off the year with and in Llandeilo.
No way can I list everyone I’ve met but a huge thank you to you all; co-exhibitors, customers and organisers alike. It has been quite a year.
🤗🙏🧡💪🤩

I do like to work on umpteen projects simultaneously, but this was a tangent and a half.
.
Drew a design I’d had in mind for a painting, which I transferred onto a board and began working on. Overnight I decided that the boot element would work as a standalone print, woke up yesterday and carved it.
Got so carried away printing it this morning that breakfast ended up being at 1pm. Now I have prints on paper, prints on fabric for bookbinding (🎉) and prints on both my old print-and-repair jeans and a new pair that I bought for markets😬
.
And now… back to the original project.
.
Probably.

Happy winter solstice! The shortest day, longest night and often some of the most atmospheric skies of the year. I love a winter sky 💙
.
Some experiments with hand printed images and inkjet words, for forthcoming workshops in Llandeilo.
.
Probably the closest cycle to midwinter, although there may be another one tomorrow 🤞
.
My lovely jackdaw neighbours surfing the winds
.
Year another side project. Now four in progress, plus knitting and writing 😬
.
Now the journey back to the light!

A real highlight of this year (just a week or so ago) was receiving my certificate for ‘honourable mention’ in the mini prints exhibition and contest. I love the idea of my print winging its way to Japan and have entered the contest for a few years, so this was such a surprise treat. I will cherish this gorgeous piece of paper (and the amazing envelope it came in!)
.
My piece is a reduction print inspired by Murukami’s Wild Sheep Chase, and it’s a reduction print, starting with the darkest layer just to mix things up a bit😉
Now to next year’s entry..🤔
