Weekend vibes: ate my heart out at TORA, then grabbed mochi donuts from Marry Me Mochi. My tummy is living its best life.

We wrapped up our wonderful meal at Alo with these stunning desserts. They weren’t just beautiful to look at - they were incredibly delicious. Truly edible art.

Alo had been on my restaurant wish list for the longest time. I love great food, but I’m definitely not the type to book months in advance. So I was thrilled when my brother made a reservation during his visit to Toronto to celebrate my birthday.

Hands down, it was the best meal I’ve had in Toronto. No surprise it has a Michelin star—and has kept it for years.

The restaurant serves contemporary French cuisine through a blind multi-course tasting menu. They rotate their dishes often, so don’t expect to get the same menu you see in this post.

The whole experience was unforgettable, and the desserts were so stunning they deserved their own post.

Life has been busy - both personally and professionally - so I’ve been way behind on posting my foodie adventures these past few months. Here’s one from my birthday week in September, when my brother and sister-in-law were visiting Toronto.

I just realized I also celebrated my birthday at Canoe last year. What a coincidence! The view, as always, was spectacular. The food was great, although I think I chose the wrong main dish this time. My favourite of the night was definitely the scallop en croûte.

I need to go back soon just for that dish!

The Christmas tree was already up at the Eaton Centre when we visited last weekend - does this mean it’s officially time to start Christmas shopping?

Instead of diving into the stores, we opted for lunch at Trattoria Mercato. We ordered the Yellowfin Tuna Tartare to start, followed by the Diavola Pizza and Linguine Di Mare for our mains, and finished with their Pear & Apple Crumble for dessert.

You can always tell a restaurant is serving authentic dishes when you hear so many guests speaking the native language - Italian in this case!

We checked out the Christmas Market at Epoch Bar and Kitchen Terrace at The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto last Saturday.

We weren’t sure what to expect from the market, so we also booked a table at the restaurant - thankfully we did, because there’s no proper seating on the terrace.

We ended up having dinner first before heading out to explore the market. Here’s what we ordered:

Hamachi Crudo
Yuzu Kosho, Shallots, Cilantro, Bosaam

East Coast Oysters
Yuzu Pearls, Calamansi Mignonette, Lemon, Hot Sauce

10oz Striploin with Apple & Fennel Salad
Roasted Baby Peppers, Demi-Glaze, Black Garlic Butter

Miso Black Cod
Sake, Miso, Crispy Lotus Roots, Sesame Seeds, Pea Shoots

Really Fudgy Brownie
Hot Fudge Sauce, Caramel Sauce, Vanilla Ice Cream

On top of that, our server accidentally brought us the wrong dessert - and told us to keep it! We think it was a caramel cheesecake, and it was delicious.

The Christmas Market was definitely fun, but we still preferred the regular dinner. That said, you can easily do both: enjoy a cozy dinner inside, then head out to the terrace for photos. It’s very Instagram-worthy.

As someone of Chinese descent, I can proudly say - I love dumplings. They’re my ultimate comfort food. So when I heard about a new dumpling spot opening downtown, I knew I had to check it out.

Hero Dumpling is located at Yonge and College. Despite the ongoing construction in the area, it was still easy to get to. We visited around noon and noticed a steady flow of customers coming and going - a good sign!

With today’s inflation, dining out can get pricey, but not here. The prices were surprisingly affordable. Can you believe their soup dumplings are only $3.99?

We wanted to try everything on the menu, but we decided to share a few dishes between the two of us. Here’s what we ordered:

• Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings: $3.99 (6 pcs)
• Mini Pan-Fried Pork Bun Cup: $14.99 (20 pcs)
• Pan-Fried Pork Bun: $6.99 (4 pcs)
• Black Pepper Beef Pie: $4.99 (1 pc)
• Mild Spicy Chicken Pie: $4.99 (1 pc)
• Hong Kong Style Wonton Soup: $8.99 (8 pcs)

Everything was delicious, but my personal favorite was the Mini Pan-Fried Pork Bun Cup - it was so good!

I can’t wait to go back and try more of their menu items.

P.S. With a 4.8 ⭐ rating on Google, you know it’s worth checking out!

We took a little trip to Unionville this past weekend to check out this lovely café/restaurant - and I’m so glad we did! I absolutely loved the cozy, intimate vibe of the place.

We started our brunch with a cappuccino, their soup of the day (tomato soup), and a Caesar salad. For mains, we went with the prosciutto panini and lobster tail pasta - both were amazing! Honestly, we couldn’t pick a favorite, but if I had to be a little biased… the lobster pasta totally won me over 🦞 #ilovelobster

Of course, we had to end our meal with some iHalo Krunch ice cream - because who doesn’t love a sweet treat to finish things off? 🍦

My only regret? Not having time to visit Cloud 21 Wellness upstairs, which offers hair spa and massage therapy (definitely saving that for next time!).

Was it worth the drive from downtown to Unionville? 100% yes. Highly recommend checking this spot out! ❤️

This year, my birthday held a special significance as it coincided with my cousin’s wedding day. It was such a beautiful celebration with amazing food and even better company. The dinner reception was held at Jump, one of our favorite restaurants known for its warm ambiance and exquisite cuisine. It was truly an evening to remember.
