Sonny Singh is a Brooklyn-based trumpeter, dhol player, vocalist, and lifelong social justice educator whose music is equal parts prayer and protest, joy and defiance. His new band, the Bhangra Liberation Orchestra, makes rebellious, joyful music to fortify our hearts on and off the dancefloor. Rooted in the genres of bhangra, Punjabi folk, qawwali, and jazz, BLO draws from Punjabi ancestral wisdom with a heavy dose of musical improvisation to deliver a clear message of love, unity, and liberation in these times of rising authoritarianism and attacks on the marginalized.

This track and video were inspired by Bhai Mardana and Guru Nanak traveling around South Asia and the Middle East in the 16th Century spreading their message of oneness and revolutionary love. We wanted to pay tribute to that tremendous history as we create new sounds to usher us into the future—with no divisions between Sikh, Muslim or Hindu. ੴ Eid Mubarak!
