“It all seems so self-evident: clean drinking water from the tap, electricity at the flick of a switch, and a steady supply of materials to build affordable housing. But that is no longer the case. The systems that support our daily lives are coming under strain and increasingly failing to deliver. Should society simply accept having less? Or does this create an opportunity to do things differently?
This Biennale shows that systems can change, and that there is always room for improvement. If you look closely, you can already see that change is underway. With this edition of the we celebrate the active, inquisitive, and critical role of designers, showing what becomes possible when we choose to prioritize different values than those that have guided us in recent decades.”
