I used to have abdominal and back discomfort almost daily for months, plus recurring acute pancreatitis episodes. Since surgery, I haven’t had that discomfort or pain once, even though I’m eating normally again.
That has been a huge relief, because it suggests there hasn’t been permanent pancreatic damage from everything my body went through. I am very grateful for that because not everyone is that lucky.
Mentally, I’m still catching up a bit. It’s been a lot. But now that things have been stable for a while, I can feel my nervous system slowly starting to believe that things are actually better ✨

After stepping away from this account for a while, I wanted to give a small update.
Since October last year, I’ve been getting severely ill on and off. It happened again in November, then during Christmas and New Year’s, and in March I ended up in the hospital for a week and then it turned out these episodes were acute pancreatitis.
My bloodwork showed that my pancreas was essentially starting to digest itself and my inflammation markers were through the roof. I don’t wish that level of pain on anyone.
For months I lived with the fear of another attack. I became scared to eat, scared to trust my body, and mentally I wasn't doing well at all. During that hospital stay I was scheduled for emergency surgery which was supposed to make things better, but as someone with an extreme phobia of surgery/general anesthesia, I panicked and couldn’t go through with it.
Not even a week after coming home, I had another episode and ended up back in the hospital. At that point I knew this couldn’t continue. The episodes were getting worse, and with each one the risks became more serious (sepsis, necrosis, loss of organ function).
Eventually, with a very understanding surgical team/anesthesiologist, I had emergency surgery days later. The recovery was painful for the first few days, but slowly things started to improve; I no longer need morphine for pain management after needing it daily for weeks, and for the first time in months I’ve been able to eat (everything!) without that constant fear hanging over me.
I’m not fully back to myself yet, but I’m doing better. I’ve slowly started reading again. I finished What Happens at Night by Peter Cameron and Strange Behavior by Harold Klawans in the hospital, and both became 5-star reads for me.
For now I’m taking things slowly, but I’m hoping to return to this space a little more. Reading has always been one of my anchors, and I’m relieved to feel that part of me is slowly coming back.
Also, a special thank you to, who shared her own experience with me and suggested I ask about Midazolam/Versed, a calming pre-med before surgery.
That advice genuinely helped me get through it ❤️
