스튜디오에는 나와 승현님과 화분 세 개만이 있었고 그 풍경은 이상하리만큼 당연했다. 그러니까 인간은 자연물인데, 문명은 문명이고, 자연은 자연이어서 인간과 자연은 너무나 다른데, 동시에 일정히 같았다. 그런 우리가 5층 건물에 있었다. 계단이 가팔라서 오르면 숨이 차올랐던. 밖으로는 차가 지나다니고 여러 개의 커피숍과 형형색색의 신발을 신은 사람들이 돌아다녔다.
지금에서야 생각할 수 있는 건 인간은 인간을 끊임없이 이해할 수 없지만 식물은 아무런 행위와 조건 없이 이해할 수 있다는 점이다. 아무런 말 없이. 서로의 너무 검은 눈을 들여다 보며 이해하려 애썼던 시간들은 연두색 잎맥을 보고 치유된다. 사람들은 갈 곳 없는 이해의 에너지로 식물을 돌보기 시작했으며 그 즈음부터 카메라로 나무와 사람을 담기 시작했다. 예정된 연결이었다.
