She is not being stubborn, she’s just not keen. That’s all. And like all of us, when there’s something we don’t like we need the time to process and decide if the reward is worth it.

Imagine having a dog - one of the most loving and loyal creatures on earth - and then doing this to them.
Dogs experience a lot of emotions but guilt isn’t one of them. It’s more a judgement of behaviour, and that is something dogs don’t do.

It does not cause separation anxiety. Quite the opposite in fact - it helps a dog develop a healthy attachment and feel safe.
A puppy that’s just been brought home should not be left to ‘cry it out’ in a crate. It’s fine for them to sleep in a crate but you must help them settle and you must help soothe them if they’re distressed.
Please don’t listen to professionals that lack empathy and a nurturing nature, the ones that tell you to ignore them or worse, bang on their crate. They do not like dogs, they just want something to control.

Water sprays, citronella collars, rattle tins etc. Harmless right? Nope. They are teaching your dog that they are unsafe. An unsafe dog will be emotionally dysregulated. An emotionally dysregulated dog will have way more behavioural issues - and way less quality of life.
That’s before you consider the fact that the dog may not even be making the association that you think they are.
For example, I know of a dog that wore a bark collar. It went off when they barked. But they also wagged their tail when barking. The poor dog thought the bark collar was activating when they wagged their tail and tried to chew it off. Harmless? I think not.
Also, it doesn’t allow you to find out why the dog is doing the behaviour in the first place. They may be in pain, frightened, stressed etc.
A real pro would never recommend these tools and will want to get to the root cause.

A dog isn’t an appliance that you can send away to get fixed.
There are also loads of reputable vets, rescue orgs, groomers etc and I value them all. Sadly there are still too many cases that I and other professionals experience where terrible advice has been given and the dog has suffered.
I also do not mean to shame anyone for behavioural euthanisia. In some cases where everything has been exhausted and the dog has no quality of life or is deemed too unsafe, I understand it completely. But behaviour euthanisia because some cowboy has abused a dog and pushed them way past their limit is a tragedy that can and must be avoided.
