First time 2nd place! I have never been so close before! Thank you all SO MUCH for voting for my ‘Chintz Revival’ challenge entry! I am delighted with my placement and grateful to all of you.

I designed ‘The Walled Garden’ for wallpaper in classic interiors, but then I tried it on this modern wall with a cool surfboard in front, and though it would fit wonderfully in a modern Boho space as well. What do you think?

If I could sew, I would make myself a summer dress right away! It’s full summer mode here in the Netherlands with 34 C degrees. Maybe I should think of new colourways as well, now that it landed in the top 10…. I will have a think and try some different variations. What type of product would you like to see this printed on?

The design is available in three sizes at the moment, and was added to my ’Snake Country’ collection because it actually fits quite well with my Nursery design from last year. I recently added some blenders and coordinates to the collection, too, so it’s becoming a lovely, rounded set by now. You can find the link in my bio, or you can use this link here:

Over the coming two weeks, I want to share the designs from my ‘Dutch Blue Heritage collection', which is now one of the 20 finalist collections in the TwoPages contest! The first pattern I am sharing is ‘Betsy’, a Millefleurs-inspired design featuring clusters of flowers and insects, influenced by historic floral textiles and traditional Delftware decoration. The pattern creates the impression of a richly planted garden filled with botanical detail and offers small discoveries where insects play. The composition is dense and immersive, encouraging the eye to wander while maintaining a harmonious overall appearance.

The design is intended to bring a sense of abundance, craftsmanship, and natural beauty to an interior. I chose a floor-to-ceiling linen blend drapery fabric for this design, which provides ample surface area for the richness of the pattern to be fully appreciated.

I love how the light falls through the curtains in this classic interior with high ceilings. What I adore about blue and white designs, and especially these timeless patterns, is that they can easily be at home in a classic space as well as a modern interior.

The design is available in six colourways, from the original blue on cream to an inverted version, a ton-sur-ton version and also a kaki and grey version.

If you like what you see, you can vote for my collection on the TwoPages contest website to send me into the top 10which can win me a licensing contract for their beautiful curtains! Please register first, then you can find my portrait photo and collection to vote and even win a great prize! (swipe to find out)

I was absolutely over the moon that TwoPages shared their contest top 100 on Friday, when I found that I was included with so many great artists for their Curtains as Art contest!

I just had time to recover from the super exciting news and found out today that I entered the next phase with their reveal that I am now in the top 20 selections for the contest. I can not believe it!

The next stage is that you (yes, you!) can vote which of the 20 collections presented by TwoPages deserves to move forward to the next round. Of course, I would be absolutely delighted to get your vote. 🙏

About my collection:
As you might know, Delft Blue art is my passion and my living heritage growing up in the Netherlands. I love to share about it and have done this a few times before. This collection is built around that love for this 400-year old handcrafted art and is named ‘Dutch Blue Heritage’.
All my designs have been named after a woman who has played a significant role in Delft's history. Women who have been strong, different, brave, tenacious and clever, supporting other young people and women's education, financial independence and professional development, but also protecting the arts, including Delft Blue art and even the famous Dutch painter Vermeer, might not have made all his masterpieces if not for one of these incredible women. I will share more about each one over time.

This collection is as close to my heart as can be, and that is why I am so incredibly happy that I made it to the top 20! I also want to congratulate all the other shortlisted artists. These are going to be exciting times!

In the first quarter of this year, I finalised a long-term project of recolouring and editing two designs for a client with a huge country house in France. I was sent a wallpaper sample from a French company with hot air balloons in a certain colour palette, which I was asked to use as a basis to change the colours of my popular ‘Chinoiserie landscape with pagodas’ design. I sent fabric samples to France several times to get the colours and the type of fabric for the client right. This design was going ot be used as upholstery for dinner chairs. Then I edited a trellis design in the right colours for massive curtains. I sent a total of 23 kilos of fabric when the design and the choice of fabrics were established! It was rather an exciting project, and I hope to receive photos of the finalised room sometime.

For now, I used part of the colour palette but made it more my own, and added this colourway to my shop for the pagoda design. I also changed my newest trellis design made for the Blender Bonanza to hot pink, following the tip of! The trellis pattern was an instant success during the challenge, and I love to offer it now in a different palette as well. I used some soft pink and hot pink, too. It is available in four extra colours and two sizes for each colour. At the same time, I changed my peony and camelia design to pink too, so now the whole collection is available in a different look.

I hope this one is just as much enjoyed as the original green and blue version! What do you think?

Celebrating a new arrival today! In my ongoing collaboration with Hawaiian shirt brand, this is my 9th design entering their shop! This time, they chose a watercolour design of the deep ocean filled with flowing seaweeds, vibrant coral and playful tiny fish darting between the underwater flora and fauna. The name of this new red and blue watercolour design is 'Ocean Silhouettes'.

The quality of Yiume’s shirts is truly unparalleled. I am happy to receive a shirt of each design I have worked on for them, and they are truly treasured.

Just a little something today. Though the sakura (cherry blossom) is all gone in Japan and has made way for Wisteria, Hydrangeas and Irises now, I felt a bit nostalgic for my time spent in Japan and wanted to share this lovely design. Since as a surface designer, we need to work on all seasons at the same time, depending on the timelines of our customers, I feel I have my left leg in winter, my right in summer, my left arm in spring and my right arm in autumn. I am must admit, I kinda like it that way!

How do you feel about having all seasons criss-crossing your desk all through the year?

I see this little number as one perfect for wallpaper, fashion (yes, men’s!) and stationery alike. It has such a nice flow, which almost make sit feel like a geometric pattern, but the little sakura gives it a nice touch of new beginnings and a fresh take.

‘The Walled Garden - Chintz Floral’ - My entry for the Chintz Revival challenge by!

Spoonflower asked us ‘Please show us your finest reimagined chintz, featuring abundant blooms, graceful movement, and layered detail.... Designs can lean traditional or modern, but should feel rich, decorative, and thoughtfully arranged, with a sense of depth and flow that carries beautifully across a full wall.’ I loved to create my own version in a rich colour palette. An exception, because I do not often share a design in a different colour palette. I’d love to know what you think!

The word chintz comes from the Hindi word chint, meaning spotted or variegated cloth. It originated in India, where hand-painted and block-printed cotton fabrics with elaborate floral designs were produced for export from at least the 16th century. It was made using a complex resist-dyeing and mordant printing process that produced extraordinarily vivid, colourfast designs.

Indian chintz arrived in Europe via the Portuguese and Dutch East India Companies in the 17th century and caused a sensation. The colours were brighter, the designs more intricate, and the fabric lighter. Better than anyone in Europe could produce. A technical achievement Europe was not able to replicate for centuries, and not for a lack of trying!

It became so fashionable that both France and England banned its import in the late 17th and early 18th centuries to protect their own textile industries, yet smuggling continued because demand was insatiable. Can you imagine?!

Unable to stop the trade, European manufacturers eventually learned to imitate it. France developed Toile de Jouy partly as a response. England developed English chintz, bold, colourful florals on white or cream backgrounds by the 18th and 19th centuries. It has become a cornerstone of English interior decoration.

Chintz, until quite recently, was associated with frilly, dated interiors of the 1980s. But it has made a great comeback, and I'm happy for it!

Happy June! It’s only 21 days to summer, so before Spring is gone, I’ll take this moment to share one of the striped patterns I added a few weeks ago to my Spoonflower shop. It was a design I made last year, but at the time did not know if I liked it. And when I found it during the Blender Bonanza, I did not remember anymore why I didn’t like it! It was created in millefleurs style with my favourite spring flowers and made into a sweet decorative stripe.

I am thinking to create some patterns to accompany this stripe in the future, but for now, it is available in my shop in two sizes.

offers up to 30% off sitewide, through June 5th.

‘Watering Place Menagerie’ made it in the ‘Jungle Nursery’ top 100 to the 67th place (tie)! Yay! Thank you all so much for voting!

I was a bit surprised, really, when I found out it made it so far. The moment the challenge started, I saw all the other entries, which were much more focused on the baby theme. My design was less focused on babies, but more something that tiny humans, but also their parents, could really appreciate. There are lots of animals and details that make this design a fun ‘hidden object image’. The colours are soft but playful, but all in all somewhat different from the majority of the designs entered. So I am even more thankful that so many appreciated my approach to the brief!

I also found out that I made a mistake when entering a design that was missing the monkey! Which is one of the most fun animals to try to find. I corrected this after the challenge, so you can now also try to find it. Did it take you long?

The design is available in two sizes in my shop, as part of my Indienne Haveli Dreams collection. Find the link in my bio, or use this link here:
