Phase 1 of replacing the front lawn is done! I greatly underestimated the amount of mulch I'd need for this! 😅

I weed whacked the grass down to the dirt without damaging the existing plants. Then I covered pretty much all of it with 2 to 3 inches of mulch. I have about 40 plants in the ground, 35 of which are native varieties.

The ultimate goal is to do the entire front and triple that number of native plants and add more varieties. I'll eventually get a cobblestone-like walkway to replace the pavers. But that's a whole other project

Can't wait to see all these start growing and blooming! 🌼🌷🪻. Hopefully in the next coming years these will creep and spread.

Did anything big and crazy happen while we weren't posting? Anything at all?! 😂 - We Miss You Retta!

We have a lot of work to do still, admittedly it was nice not being able to do anything last year. But hey, let's get to it! This time around, we're going to make sure we take time to do things we love and enjoy our hobbies.
.
Which is why I'm working on my pottery studio first! Over winter, it turned into a storage area and it got super dusty from saw dust. I spent 3 hours deep cleaning the loft. Next I'm installing the kiln, the ventilation and building drying racks. Check out some of the things I made already! I might post some while time goes on.

If you're curious what things we will try our best to tackle this year:
.
1) Stripping all the texture off the first 2 floors, that involves removing all the glitter too 🪩🙃
2) Replace the boiler. It's SUPER old (installed in the 70s-80s) it keeps dying and it's extremely inefficient.
3) Put UP walls. This house is.. too open concept. So we're going to build a wall in the living room and make it a more defined space.
4) Closets and storage - there's shockingly little.
5) I hate mowing the front lawn, I'm going to convert it to a native plant pollinator garden. I'm aiming for 80-90% native plants and zero grass. We don't have contractors scheduled for the exterior, so no more killing the flowers!

Wish list
1) Install the floors? We have enough hardwood flooring in boxes, in the basement, that we couldn't install for the past 3 years.
2) I really want a fully functional bathroom without a hole in the floor.

We have 3 things to do (towel holder, door trim, rehang the door) and I'm loving it!
.
I cannot tell you how many times I've repainted the ceiling because I kept using the wrong finish, but I'm not touching it anymore!
.
I think the original tile worked out beautifully and matches really well. I'm so happy I didn't have to take it out and replace it.
.
I'm thinking about spray painting the mirror to be a color to match the faucet, I originally ordered it in black but now I think it gets lost against the wall - let me know your thoughts!

As for the next project, I think that after Thanksgiving we're going to start the great de-texturing of the first and second floor and at the same time, and some lighting to replace these track lights - which we found out they don't make lights for anymore....

I really do love this wallpaper. From afar. It does look like old lady flowers, which honestly I'm not mad at. But up close, its big jellyfish in bold colors on a black wallpaper. I was nervous doing black wallpaper and a black ceiling but the new vanity lights really brighten up the room. I'm really happy we kept the floor because it will match really well, and it cleans up like new with a good scrub!

So far this little bathroom is making a big bold impact and it looks fantastic!!

We have to build the vanity for the sink and install the faucet. All the fixtures I've decided to go with a bronze including the feet of the vanity.

I did find a product to seal the wallpaper just in case there's any splashes around the sink so I'm going to do that before we install everything but we are at the finish line.

The ceiling, we decided to go with black, shout-out to #tricornblack! This little bathroom is really coming together and it's starting to look really, REALLY good.

Next up we're going to be wallpapering, for the first time ever 😨. How hard can it be? No seriously, please don't be hard... (Help) After we struggle with that, we have a small cabinet and then that's it.

We've been slowly but surely getting this little bathroom done over the past 1.5 weeks and we're nearing the finish line!

(Side note) I definitely thought this would be a much faster project, but the demolition of the bathroom was so much more work and debris that we realized! We took out, and drove over 600lbs of lath and plaster to be recycled! 600lbs! From this tiny bathroom, that's insane to me!

Next up is mudding, mudding, and more mudding.. oh and lots of sanding!

We've successfully removed all the layers of drywall, plaster and lathe to bring this back down to the studs! We've gained 3 inches because of how thick the walls were!

It's so spacious now!
.
We also didn't damage the tile at all, so no last minute tiling needed here! Phew!
.
Originally we thought about leaving the ceiling open and painting beneath the stairs for a bit of added headroom, and we're honestly surprised there was a middle stringer, we only expected them on the edges. So that idea is out and drywall on the ceiling is back in.

Next up, replacing the electrical with conduit and plumbing. Then walls, priming, wallpapering, and fixtures! Ez pzzzz 😅

We're definitely not going to talk about why we haven't posted for a while. Not now at least. That'll come much later.

But it's high time that we start a project with little to no planning involved!

Coming in at a whopping ~15 Sq ft. we're doing the first floor guest bathroom! As you can see, IT'S. TINY. And the sink practically takes up half the room (literally, it's 18 inches deep and the width of the room is like 3 feet)!
.
Here's the plan! So we're going to rip everything out, try to keep the floors, the toilet and floors, put up drywall, and then wallpaper some boldness into there and find a new smaller sink and faucet! Ez pzzzz!
.
I really want to try and get this done in a week, but who knows what surprises we'll uncover when we take down the walls. 🤷♂️
.
PS: we're keeping the tile mostly because I really REALLY don't want to tile... So if we break it, I'm screwed because we don't have a backup. So if you see me angrily, defeatedly carrying boxes of tile in the house this week, you know why.
