The state funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe began on April 27 and was held at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. The atmosphere around the venue was tumultuous, with clashes between opponents demanding the cancellation of the state funeral, police forces, and right-wing groups.
At the intersection in front of Kudanshita Station, a right-wing group holding placards reading "Revise the Constitution to nuclear weapons" and "Invoke the right of self-defense" began demonstrating, followed shortly thereafter by a march with loudspeakers saying "Oppose the national funeral! and a march with loudspeakers in hand took place. A march with loudspeakers in hand shouting "Oppose National Funeral! with loudspeakers in their hands. Go home, non-nationals! Don't take advantage of Abe's death! The atmosphere was tense as a man broke through the barricade of police officers who had entered the area and grabbed the demonstrators.
Preparations for tomorrow's "state funeral" of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have begun at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward. In addition to searching the moat around the Imperial Palace for any suspicious objects, police dogs were introduced and helicopters patrolled the area for all-round security.
