そして今年のあたまに久しぶりにステージナタリーでジルさんと柄本弾さんを撮影しました。そのご縁で「オフィシャルポートレートを撮って欲しい。」とご本人から直々にご依頼をいただきました。２０２４年にベジャール・バレエ団を離れたので新しいオフィシャルポートレートがいるとのことでした。
撮影は２パターンのライティングと衣装で２０分ほど。時間は言われてませんでしたが、撮影は早く終えました。撮影が終わり、今後のセレクトや本番写真のやりとりをNBSの方を交えて話したところ、「君の一存に任せる。選んで欲しい。」と言われました。え？いいんですか？
ということでこれが選ばさせていただいた写真たちです。ポートレート撮影の仕事をしていると、本当にいろいろな世界や人と繋がり思いもよらぬ経験をさせていただきます。
首位柏と４位鹿島の大事な戦いです。ここでしっかり勝利を掴んで欲しいものです！今年こそ優勝だ！！！
副編集長の山本さんからは、以前僕が撮った柳井さんの笑顔を撮ってほしいとオーダーされました。あの時はUNIQLOでバイトしてお金を貯めて上京してカメラマンになったというエピソードがあって、それを柳井さんの前で披露して柳井さんの返しに僕が反応して笑顔を引き出しました。ある人に「柳井さん、そのエピソードはきっと覚えてないから同じ話をすれば良いんですよ。」と言われました。
たしかにとそうだなと思うと同時に、それをしたらただの仕事になっちゃうなと思いました。いやいや撮影してお金を稼ぐ仕事を自分はずっとしているんだけど、ポートレートは僕にとっては人生なんです。いいおじさんになっても青臭いんです。僕の人生には成功方程式を当てはめてずっと勝ち続ける必要はない。むしろ失敗こそ意味があり、人生を醸し出して成熟させるんじゃないのでしょうか？
だから上手くいかなくても良いから、今の自分で柳井さんと向き合おうと思いました。エピソードトークも無し、出たとこ勝負。今の自分で対峙して、駄目だったら謙虚に反省してやり直せば良い。そう覚悟を決めて当日に臨みました。
撮影当日、前室にいる時に思い付きでそこにセットを作りました。社長室で柳井さんを撮影し、その後に前室に移動していただき撮影したのがこの写真です。
「ここで撮影？それは前例がないからなぁ。どうかなぁ。本人が良ければ良いのですが。」とおっしゃる社長室の方には「柳井さんが自分の部屋を出たくない雰囲気を少しでも出したらその時に撮影は潔く止めます。そこを信じていただけたら。」とお伝えしました。
社長室で柳井さんを撮影し、「実は隣の部屋にもセットを作ってあるので撮影させてもらっていいですか？」とお聞きしたら「いいよ！行こう！」とノリノリで移動してくれました。社長室の方にご迷惑を掛けずで良かった〜。
インタビュアーは編集長の藤吉さん。流石のインタビューでした。良い話がたくさん聞けました。やっぱりすごい。
これまでのカメラマン人生の中で自分が撮影出来るとは思わなかったすごい人をたくさん撮らせていただきました。新人の頃はそういう撮影がある度に１週間前から夜は眠りが浅くなり、起きてるあいだは撮影のことばかり考えてしまい、撮影当日は緊張のあまり脳は痺れ、身体はガチガチに強張っておりました。20年の長い間、ありがたいことにずっとポートレートを撮影させてもらっているとそういった超緊張は徐々に少なくなりました。
しかし、そんな超緊張がひさびさやってきました。
でも昔と違うのは超緊張と同時に超なんとかなるしなんとかするという気持ちがあることです。
今回は撮影時間は短いしカット数もそこそこある。でも大丈夫。自分は撮影が早いから。撮影場所もけっこう厳しい。でも大丈夫。なるとかなるしなんとかする。そうやってここまできたのだから。
撮影は無事終わりました。
しかし、撮影の終盤に山田洋次さんが「もう少し早く撮れるといいねぇ。」的な事を優しく厳しくぼそっと仰った。
たくさんの人から「平岩さんは撮影が早い！」と言われてきた自分からすると「えっ！そうなの！最短でやったつもりだったよ！」とその時は思いましたが、その後に山田さんからいただいた言葉と向き合い自分の新しい可能性を探りました。
すると出てきた答えは、1秒を大切にするのと同じくらい１回のシャッターも大切にする。そして、今以上に相手のことを見て、感じて対峙してシャッターを押すということでした。
自分の常識を覆し、新しい可能性を提示してくれた山田洋次監督には感謝しかありません。
さぁ、これからもワクワクした写真生活を過ごしていきますぞ！
きっちり撮影内容も決まっていた撮影だったのですが、撮影の最後に2人の感じならイケるかも！と直感でピンときて撮影した予定外のカットが１枚目の写真です。2人とも格好良い〜✨。
