Its simple round form sits gently against the tiled surface, casting a diffused halo of light that softens the stone and terrazzo materials around. While it is not the primary source of light, it becomes an atmospheric element. The warm and subtle glow reflected through the mirror, creating enclosure within the space as someone is using the space.

Set against the backdrop of beautiful landscape, the pendants balance the interior and exterior. It recedes into the background, allowing natural daylight to take and view beyond the windows to be the focus. Then, as the sun sets, it diffuses warm white light that shapes night. Its gentle, rounded form, and matte white finish integrates seamlessly within the interior, while still holding presence as a central element above the dining setting.

Along the stair, a concealed LED strip is integrated within an aluminum channel to create a continuous and even line of light. This simple line guides movement as people are moving through the stairs, creating a clear sense of direction.
Moving to one of the bedrooms, there is a Muuto Rime pendant, designed by TAF Studio. It is placed above the sitting / resting corner. Inspired by the natural shape of acorns and the frosted quality of ice, the mouth-blown glass form diffused a calm light ambience to the room.

Inspired by the Big Bang, the light features a dynamic composition of elliptical discs diverging outward from a central point. The form emphasises movement and expansion, contrasting the calm and clean interior around. When the light is on, the hand-dyed polycarbonate elements create layered shadows, casting soft patterns onto the walls.
While a corridor is often defined by passage, this fitting invites a pause, shifting a moment of transition into something more considered.

Beside its shape, this Metropol Wall Sconce light from Rakumba was selected in our Macedon Ranges project for the quality of light it produces. Twin diffusers soften the source and gently wash the plaster surface, letting the texture and shadow to appear as the evening changes. The illumination sits at approximately eye level, creating a calmer and more intimate atmosphere after dark compared to overhead lightings.

As she stepped in, thousands of suspended lights shifted in colour and each interaction triggered a quiet chain reaction. Step by step, the light began to flow from a single moment into something continuous. There is an illusion of infinite depth created by the mirrored floors and walls which dissolve the edges of the room.
A simple object, lamp, shaping visitors' experience and mood by being a responsive environment rather than static installation. It has the ability to define space, guide movement, and create atmosphere, transforming the way we relate to our surroundings entirely.
In designing a home, lighting is never placed arbitrarily. Through careful positioning, it can create a sense of flow and movement within a home, guiding how spaces are experienced as we stay or transition from one room to another.

These hanging lamps are handmade from delicate washi paper and bamboo ribbing, an icon of 1950s modern design. It is truly a perfect piece of traditional Japanese craft with timeless modernist form.
It feels like a lot of rooms would suit this stunning lamp. As Anne hasn’t hung it yet, where do you think is the perfect spot at home for her to do so?
