Itās also feels like a bit of a time warp watching everyone reminisce about 2016. Of course I looked back at photos too and it feels like so long and so short ago and I would totally forget so much of it if we didnāt have proof (do you ever feel like even when we have a ton of photos we just still donāt have enough? Did you look back at 2016?) We were so young and the guys were so small and we had no idea what we were doing but I still see little bits of these days echoed in our lives now 10 years later. ā¤ļø
I was also invited to #medianight this week and itās a gem of a musical about and I knew the music would be good (so good!) but also I loved how his life story unfolded too and something about the set design also made this musical feel cozy conversational and concert-like at the very same time.
So after watching this show and then seeing all of us sharing our own 2016 stories this week, collectively it feels like we humans all need our stories to be heard and maybe understood too. Maybe by looking back at our lives we figure out how we got to where we are, even though we didnāt see it happening at the time. And maybe it can help us try to make sense of where we are going next.
Where are we going next? What do we want to see for 2036? And will we be able to make sense of what weāve lived through now when we look back then?
I was told that one of my little nephews thinks I sound like the lady in the āaināt no mountain high enough songā and Iām not sure what version he listens to or why he thinks I sound like her, but this little thought into the universe filled my heart up 1000x this week.
And I donāt remember the last time I had coffee alone in a while so when I still had twenty minutes on my parking from the AND I was parked so close to I used the minutes to their full potential ā¤ļø (also my shoes matched the cup! and also my coffee was classic and delicious)
I made it to pottery but Iām struggling to get myself back on the ski hill.
If you ever need something silly to watch, you can watch Scout do his ridiculously speedy happy spins.
How was your weekend? Are you ready for the week?

And yet I still canāt believe there are spring flowers blooming in my yard- Iām really thankful we are finally getting a bit more snow in the mountains.
I am just now writing up a bit of a Paris trip we took not this past Thanksgiving but the one before for my blog (are you dreaming about Paris too because of the news of snow there and too?) and finished listening to āthe goldfinchā by Donna Tarte which thoroughly enthralled and depressed me at the same time. (Did you read this one? I loved this line: āIsnāt everything worthwhile a gamble? Canāt good come around sometimes through some strange back doors?ā)
So now Iām starting āTheo of Goldenā by Allen Levi on for my drives (I do hope to finish at least 5 real paper books this yearā¦but also I love being read to) because Iāve seen it on a bunch of lists (have you read it?)
We had a few medical appointments this week too and the people working in hospitals do absolute miracles especially these days and it sounds like our flu season is horrific this year. (If only there was something we could do to help? š¤¦š»āāļøš·š§¼š)
So I guess we keep on keep on plodding along, doing the best we can and maybe itās the good things in life that we need to remember now more than anything. What are you up to today? I hope maybe something fun and that you get a bit of sun and light where you are.

I think Scout was enjoying all of us slowing down and being home for a little bit during the holidays. I totally wonder what itās like being a pup. And I think weāre both loving that every day lately brings a little more light āØdo you have a pup in Seattle too?

Iām definitely leaning into the sloth-ish feel of it all, catching up on reading (Iām currently listening to the Goldfinch on ), relearning how to play card games like crib and simmering slow foods in couldron-y pots on the stove.
As we start the first few days of 2026, I hope our bellies are all full of treats, our hearts feel full of love and that we all get the peace and rest we need. ā¤ļø sending wishes out there for a happy 2026 (a few days late but maybe this is the type of year where we make it okay to take things at a slower, bring us all along, pace again)

I stopped by today to catch part of the rehearsal and had my pick of the plush, velvety seats ā by tomorrow night, this whole place will be buzzing, glitzy and glamorous āØš„.
Now I just have to figure out what to wear. Itās so nice to have an excuse to get dressed up (and maybe grab dinner nearby too ā do you have a favorite spot near Benaroya Hall?).
There are still tickets left if youāre in Seattle and looking for fun New Yearās Eve plans:
Are you excited for 2026?
PS: If you love music and are thinking about year-end giving, is a nonprofit you can support at ā and one of the Friends of the Symphony perks is access to open rehearsals like this one.

Weāre really thankful to finally get some snow up here (and hoping maybe it might still end up being a good snow season after allš¤is the weather warmer than usual near you too?)
We also tried for the first time ever the other day due to a detour and my son thankfully figured out how to order ahead on the app (it was pretty lined up in North Bend). And it actually wasnāt the Popeyes in the photo, I took this shot in my hometown last week because the sky was turning pink and the store looked a little Wes Anderson, but looking back it made me laugh that we finally ended up at one not long after (and it was pretty delicious.) and itās funny what moments and places stick in our head sometimes.

ready for our skating party. A few shots in the city. Matcha and coffee. Matcha and coffee again. One shot from christmas morning. A short video of all my grandmas kids getting ready for a photo. (How did we forget to get photos of anyone else?!)
I got caught up in enjoying all the feelings of the holidays and did not capture enough photos to keep all the things I want to remember: the I thought of yous, the I made this for yous, the when did we last see each others, the wish we could see each other mores.
And just how do we remember all the I love yous said and meant in all this season and maybe throughout the year? The moments that are easy to forget as days become months become years.
I was invited to bring my sister, her family and my parents to, a real life movie set that decorates for the holidays with gorgeous lighting and all the excuses for snapshots. And in one evening we snapped more āperfectā photos than I got of all the other moments we had throughout the holidays.
I know Iāll treasure these photos for a lifetime and Iām so thankful we got to experience this because we had such a wonderful time.
But it also made me wonder how we keep the balance in our memories, the picture perfect ones and the daily ones that add up to our lives so we can hold onto those too.
There is a saying with food Instagrammers where āthe camera eats firstā and no one can eat or enjoy the food until everyone takes their fill of camera shots. Itās a little silly in the sense that the point of food is that it is supposed to be eaten, but also it only takes a few moments and there is no way to get the same shot after everyone digs in.
So maybe, taking a nod from that and the āimstagrammableā places like Martinitown that create intentional memories at least a few more times next year, before we get too caught in the moment, Iāll bring my camera out and capture a little of us first too, even if itās just for our hearts and not the āgram. ā¤ļø
Are you still in holiday mode? Do you have any traditions for the end of the year? How do you document memories?
One of the biggest things weighing on me is that our upcoming year will be our guys last year in high school! It feels like itās time but also it also feels like it hasnāt been enough time. So Iām entering this year a little more melancholy but also I know weāll take it all in with gusto and do our best to live every last drop.
Iāve picked some hopeful quotes to end the year and to share with you.
Iāve been getting daily quotes with. They often help me look at life more intentionally and give me inspiration and thoughts I might not have had if the quote hadnāt come my way. Iāve used many of the quotes Iāve received to start conversations with my family. And Iāve really appreciated this partnership with for the chats Iāve had with my kids especially this year. We grow a lot in 365 days.
Does one of these quotes resonate with you?
Are you a quotes person too? (And yes, you might want to check out.)
There is so much time, teamwork and preparation beyond what we, the audience, see in each incredible performance and itās easy to forget itās not like a movie, this is all done in one take (and live!) and itās so compelling and beautiful how it happens-I think as humans we need this form of storytelling for our souls.
This musical is also good for kids (6 and up is the recommendation-we took my guys when they were 10) and at least two people we met today behind the scenes had seen a Broadway show when they were 11 or 12 years old that inspired them to be where they are today. We must be so impressionable when we are 11 and 12. Did something inspire you when you were that age too?
(PS if you are looking for discount tickets for the show follow along the instagram if youāre in Seattle. This musical will have Rush tickets for some performances-this means a limited amount of $40 tickets will be released 60 minutes prior to the show at the box office, first-come first-serve, limit two tickets per ID)
