Born in Shiretoko, Hokkaido, and now based in London, the Japanese vocal artist has developed her voice entirely by herself, drawing inspiration from Japanese Gagaku, Opera, Bulgarian singing, Gregorian chant and experimental vocal traditions from around the world.
When she was 16, a journey to Nepal changed everything. Hearing a Buddhist nun chanting alone at a temple in Lumbini, she discovered the power of the human voice, not just as an instrument, but as something that connects us to each other, to nature and to something larger than ourselves.
