This was Minor Music in Venice.

Saidiya Hartmanโ€™s โ€˜Minor Music at the End of the Worldโ€™ took the stage at the emblematic Teatro Goldoni in Venice. Three sold-out performances, more than 1700 spectators.

Directed by Sarah Benson and featuring Andrรฉ Holland, with movement by Okwui Okpokwasili, and performances by Bria Bacon, Audrey Hailes, and AJ Wilmore. The staged performance also includes a film by Arthur Jafa and a haunting landscape by Precious Okoyomon.

This collective creation unfolds as a layered exploration of Black life and what endures beyond catastropheโ€”resonating deeply with the present moment. Weโ€™re grateful to the artists, cast, company, production teamโ€”and to Venice โœจ

SEAWORLD VENICE by Florentina Holzinger dives into the paradox of Venice, where water is life, waste, spectacle, and crisis all at once. Blending dance, theatre, and performance, bodies move through a hybrid world of lagoon, machine, and ritual, exposing what we try to hide: pollution, excess, and vulnerability.

Take a look at the first snapshots of the during the opening of the Venice Biennale.

SEAWORLD VENICE will unfold beyond the Giardini della Biennale across the city through performative actions in the public space titled ร‰tudes, marking its opening and closing moments.

ร‰tudes are a format that Florentina Holzinger has been developing since 2020: compositions between bodies, sound and architecture. According to Frรฉdรฉric Chopin, โ€˜an ร‰tude is a musical composition of considerable difficulty, designed to provide practice material for an instrument and its playerโ€™.

SEAWORLD VENICE begins with a ceremonial ritual in the lagoon where the Opening ร‰tude will take place on May 6 as an embodied moment that initiates the project through movement, presence, and collective experience.

The Venice ร‰tudes are realised in partnership with our lead partners and ร‰tude commissioners,, and

The Opening ร‰tude on May 6 is fully booked. We look forward to seeing you at the inauguration of SEAWORLD VENICE at the Austrian Pavilion at 12:30 on the same day.

Further ร‰tudes will be announced soon.

Step into the oeuvre of Sara Sejin Chang (Sara van der Heide) at Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd, where her first comprehensive exhibition in the Netherlands, Transmutation, is presented by Centraal Museum.

Across her practice, Chang interrogates the colonial and Eurocentric โ€œblueprintโ€ that continues to shape hierarchies and structures in Europe and globally, including the large-scale transracial adoption industry rooted in colonial power relations. Through poetic and enchanting installations, she seeks to undo and transform these structures of thought.

Now on view at. The exhibition is a partner project of Hartwig Art Foundation.

Rewire 2026 and Hartwig Art Foundation proudly present the world premiere audiovisual collaboration between Norwegian improvisers Supersilent and Turner Prizeโ€“winning artist Lawrence Abu Hamdan. On Sunday evening at the festival, in Amareโ€™s grand Concertzaal, these titan figures of contemporary art and experimental music join together for the first time in a specially commissioned audiovisual performance.โ
โ
Abu Hamdan is a sonic researcher, visual artist, director, and founder of Earshot โ€“ a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the study of audio for human rights and environmental advocacy. His projects reflect on the political and cultural context of sound and listening, and his work has played a central role in campaigns for organisations such as Forensic Architecture and Amnesty International.โ
โ
For nearly 30 years, Supersilent โ€“ the group of post-jazz experimentalists Arve Henriksen, Helge Sten (aka Deathprod), and Stรฅle Storlรธkken โ€“ have carved out a labyrinthian volume of works, spanning 14 releases of microtonal alien-song, improvised ambience, and strange electro-acoustic reveries.โ
โ
For their performance at Rewire 2026, Supersilent and Abu Hamdan reflect on Earshot's work in Palestine, focusing particularly on their research into the targeting of journalists and livestreams by Israeli forces. The last captured images these cameras took before or as they were being destroyed form the basis of this collaboration, which reflects on the resilience of images and the noise of erasure.โ
โ
This performance is presented by Rewire and. Commissioned by Rewire, INDEX Biennial.
