Healing your relationship with yourself isn’t just about changing or suppressing your thoughts.

Yoga helps open your heart so that you can accept (and ultimately embrace) all the parts of Self.

I’m excited to share more in the upcoming Power of Meditation Summit, hosted by therapist and Dharma teacher Kelly Blaser. I’m honored to join more than 50 wisdom teachers for a program on healing self-talk and freeing the mind through practice.

It begins on January 20, and it’s free.

Incredibly honored to welcome into Holistic Breath Academy.

Harpinder brings a rare depth to this work rooted in lineage, spiritual integrity, trauma-informed practice, and a lived commitment to yoga as a path of liberation, not performance.

Her session will explore what it actually means to honor the sacred roots of yoga as modern practitioners how we speak about pranayama, how we hold philosophy, and how we carry lineage with respect in breathwork spaces.

What started as something deeply personal has stretched me as a teacher in ways I never expected. Breathwork changed my life, my confidence, and the direction of my career. Watching students step into that same clarity and self-trust has been one of the most meaningful parts of my work.

Because of that, I’m so excited to share that our February 2026 Breathwork Facilitator Training is officially open with our most expansive faculty yet. Teaching alongside these practitioners feels like a true collaboration, and I’m honored to learn and lead beside them.

This is a 10-week certification program for those who feel called to deepen their relationship with breath and guide others with integrity, presence, and skill.

I will be away at this week for a retreat.

To dream.
To reflect.
To practice.
To go deeper into myself.

Here are some memes that have been speaking to me as I disconnect from technology.

For me, going away into silence and stillness is an opportunity to align myself to what truly matters to me. Especially when the external world seems to be continuously on fire.

It’s a way to reflect on whether I’m living into my values. Values of embodied spirituality. Of service.

As I wrote in my book Liberating Yoga,

β€œBhakti yoga practitioners emphasize the practice of selfless service (seva) and to serve others with love and compassion. There is an understanding that we are all interconnected beings, and by doing service, we acknowledge how this helps everybody in the processβ€”including ourselves. Sikhism was influenced by the Bhakti movement, and I was raised to learn from teachings from Sikh gurus like Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh. Within Sikhism, there is the concept of the sant- sipahi, the warrior-saint. The warrior who fights and stands up for justice. And the saint who is wise and loves.”

I wish to live as a sant-sipahi.

May we all be happy, healthy, safe and at ease.

(Last slides are of my kitty Alfy and wishing upon a dandelion.)

I know I bring up a lot of critique of the yoga industry β€” and it’s rooted in love and care (okay… and real annoyance and rage).

Being a yoga teacher is not easy - holding space for so many different students, never knowing what someone might be walking in with, discerning when you can support them and when it’s time to refer out.

There is so much in yoga. So many lineages, philosophies, practices, and pathways. And I admire the teachers who are doing the work to figure it out with humility and heart.

We teach from who we are, from our own life experiences, from the truths we’ve realized.

I’m so grateful for the students and teachers I get to walk alongsideβ€”those who care deeply, those who show up with intention, those who make this path so meaningful.

I’ve had the deepest, greatest honor of supporting and guiding the most sincere, kindhearted, beautiful, introspective yoga students and teachers this year! You know who you are.

This post came to me on Thursday, on the day of the Guru, of Dattatreya Jayanti, who is the Guru principle. Some of my most beloveds have been my own yoga teachers who have guided me through confusion. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for holding my hand compassionately AND lighting the fire under my ass when it was needed.

Here’s to the sincere yoga teachers transforming their own lives and the lives of their students.

Which slide do you resonate with? And tag the yoga teachers who have changed your life! I’ll begin in the comments πŸ’“

And for yoga teachers wanting to work with me, I have 1 mentorship spot open! Please message me for more info.

Reading list for yoga students βœ”οΈ

All of these books are by Indian teachers! This is my own effort to decolonize my bookshelf. And I would recommend these books even for students and teachers who have been on the path for a while.

Svādhyāya is the study of texts for self-realization, for self understanding. As yoga students and teachers, it’s important to make time to read, reflect on spiritual texts, to gain insight and wisdom into the human condition, to practice self-inquiry so that we understand ourselves better. This gives us insight into the nature of reality and our own mind.

What are you currently reading and studying from? What other books would you add to this list?

And what other time to go deep, than on this new moon in Scorpio?! ♏️
I am beyond excited to share the cover of Liberating Yoga: From Appropriation to Healing with you all! Every element of this design carries deep meaning, honoring the roots of yoga and the spirit of this book. πŸ”₯

(Also, I have to say it feels strange (and disorienting) to be promoting my book when there are many atrocities happening near and far...AND my book addresses some of the roots of these atrocities including colonialism, white supremacy, and patriarchy.)

πŸ‘πŸΎ The hands in Anjali Mudrā—not pressed flat, but with space at the knucklesβ€”symbolize the potential for an intention to blossom into the greatest spiritual awakening, as Tirumalai Krishnamacharya so beautifully describes. Our hands in this shape resemble a flower yet to open, symbolizing the opening of our hearts, to boundless compassion and connection.

🌿 The intricate designs woven throughout reflect the richness of South Asian culture, much like henna, carrying stories and traditions in every curve. Henna always takes me back to being a little girl so excited to have beautiful flowers and patterns painted onto my skin.

🌞 Behind the hands, the sun represents prāṇaβ€”vital life force, growth, and transformation. The sun to me is life and I honor it; much like I honor the moon.

🌾 And the colorsβ€”earthy, warm, like rich soilβ€”speak to both grounding and liberation. It reminds me of Punjab, of home.

Thank you to and Kiran for helping birth my vision into reality. This cover wouldn’t exist without your artistry.

This cover is an offering, a reclamation, and a prayer. I can’t wait to share this book with you all.

Have you ever gone to a yoga class that didn’t actually feel like, well, yoga?

Yoga teacher Harpinder Mann describes a class she took as a 20-something living in Los Angeles. β€œI went in looking for teachers, looking for mentors,” she says. What she found instead was more like aggressive jazzercise than yoga. β€œThe room was so steamy and I could barely see the person in front of me,” she says. β€œWe moved so fast. I was like, Am I in a hallucination?”

After an arduous search for a glimpse of what she knew yoga could beβ€”what yoga really isβ€”Mann took a class while on a work trip to India. When she walked into the yoga center, instead of seeing a lobby with spandex crop tops for sale and an employee setting up the fog machine, she was greeted by plants, an enormous book shelf, and an instructor who warmly called her β€œdaughter” and asked what brought her to class that day.

How do you appreciate and not culturally appropriate yoga? πŸ’‘

1. Acknowledge the roots of yoga and where it comes from: the Indian Subcontinent. Take time to understand the origins, history, and philosophy of these traditions and practices.

2. Teach or acknowledge yoga as a method of spiritual development and not simply a form of exercise. It is a path of study, embodiment, and transformation that may take lifetime(s). if you want to teach or practice only asana, then call it asana.

3. Pay respect to your teachers and gurus and credit where you learned from.

4. Before teaching something, make sure you have practiced it yourself and thoroughly understand it. If you don't practice meditation yourself and haven't studied it, then don't teach it. Bring the reverence and devotion back to these practices. We are always yoga students first before a yoga professional or teacher.

5. Use practices and rituals backed by an understanding of their sacredness and value - not simply for decor, aesthetics, or to play the part.

6. Learn from, hire, and uplift South Asian and Indian yoga teachers. We shouldn't be marginalized and invisible in our ancestral, cultural practices. Here are some I recommend:

When folks think about the cultural appropriation of yoga, they are oftentimes looking for a checklist. Should I say Namaste at the end of the class? Should I use Sanskrit? A checklist is not enough. This is not nuanced enough nor does it go into the deeper ecologies here.

The real inquiry and deeper work are in understanding the roots, theories, and histories so that we can see how cultural appropriation happens as a result of colonialism, oppression, and orientalism, which have been internalized into us. Without this deeper understanding, we stay complicit with systems of harm.

I'll be covering this in much more detail and more in my Dismantling Cultural Appropriation workshop for on M 3/20 from 5:30-8:30 pm PST. πŸ‘πŸ½
