Itā€™s been an amazing year, so many changes and adventures through the lens. Life is such a beautiful thing when weā€™re young it seems to crawl but as we get older it jumps into hyperdrive, each year speeding by faster than the last. Moments become pieces in the minds museum, as a street photographer I collect small bits of life in this middle era. One day ill be long gone, hopefully this page and itā€™s images well tell a story of a guy that did what he loved akin to an old Sumerian tablet, giving the viewer a peek into a life long gone. Happy New year yall, hope you all achieve your goals and dreams.
Weather really makes the set, to me itā€™s a subject just as much as a person. Snow especially becomes a character all in itself in images like a herald championing mood and emotion, honestly its a bit more special than rain as its so seldomly seen technically; it creates a certain magic in the images. As a street photographer I leverage it, trusting that it will help tell the story just as much as I can with a camera almost like symbolic relationship of mutual respect until finally parting until the next season where we can resume our journey. A large part of my respect for Chicago winter stems from my youth in the desert, a beautiful duality of thought and respect for both extremes and knowing how to survive in each.

Iā€™m so happy that you all really liked it, what started out as a crummy video That I thought was my worst product turned out to be one of my best. Thank you everyone for your kind words. Hereā€™s a bit more street photography work from a few snowfalls in the city, Chicago heralding winter with its beautiful buildings serving as a spectacular backdrop.
A few weeks ago during Chicagos first major Snowstorm I was able to catch the Holiday Train. Iā€™ve lived in Chicago for 10 years now and have never had the chance to photograph it. I remember telling ā€œwe have to catch it bro, especially in the snowfallā€. We planned out the spot and saw it as it rode through the station majestically. My inner child came out grinning in awe, growing up in Desert really distorts your perception of winter and santa, itā€™s hard to piece together snow when it was 115Ā° yesterday. It was wild, racing down the platform to seeing the magic of Chicago and the creativity of the really helps pull you into the holiday season. I love this city, thereā€™s no place like it.ā„ļøā„ļøšŸ»

Alot of new faces, a little about my self. My name is Jude Howell, I am a Chicago street photographer and I take great pride in the city and the sub-genre in itself. I donā€™t believe in luck, I was raised to believe in hard work and that if I failed at something it was because I didnā€™t try hard enough. When Iā€™m out photographing I try to push myself extremely hard: when I finish my route in the city Iā€™ll do it again backwards, when I want to go home Iā€™ll stay out an extra hour, when the weather is bad Iā€™ll find comfort in it, because I know at the most uncomfortable it becomes a battle of will; man and camera vs the world. Iā€™m the kind of person who receives a compliment and has trouble accepting it, admitting that I could have done it better: faster focus, better f stop to nail the depth of field, a better edit, or proper framing. I donā€™t really like most of my images by any margin of measure, I simply love the process and enjoy pushing myself to the limit, itā€™s the only time I feel truly alive these days. Chicago is an amazing city and she has some amazing photographers and Iā€™m glad to call some of them my friends.
This set is from yesterday at a humbling -17Ā° F out at the lake front, the steam rising off Lake Michigan like a smoldering caldera, caressing the city I love so dearly.

We had a blitz snowfall last night, I was posted up at HQ aka luckily I had my GR3x in my pocket and ran outside to capture what I could. Snowfall is one of my favorite things about living in the midwest/north; as a desert kid I didnā€™t get to see it too often so its amazing to see it when it does snow here. Also TGIF!!
