Bringing together more than 70 works by over 50 artists – from paintings and sculptures to photographs and video installations – the exhibition explores Berlin’s myth of hedonism and subculture in an international context.

Anlässlich des 30-jährigen Jubiläums eröffnen wir im Rahmen des Open House am 12. Juni eine neue Sammlungspräsentation. Über 70 Werke von mehr als 50 Künstler*innen – von Gemälden und Skulpturen bis zu Fotografien und Videoinstallationen – greifen Berlins Mythos von Hedonismus und Subkultur im internationalen Kontext auf.
In den Videos dieses Beitrags ist der Aufbau von Rirkrit Tiravanijas „Untitled, 2010 (All the Days on the Autobahn)“ zu sehen. Im Zentrum des Werks steht ein Peugeot 205, den der Künstler während seiner Zeit in Berlin nutzte und später als Readymade präsentierte.

The evening brings two live interpretations of Afif’s ongoing lyric projects into performance: “The Fountain Archives”, featuring compositions by Augustin Maurs for voice and flute inspired by texts responding to Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain, and “L’Humour noir”, where newly written texts are transformed through improvisation with voice and cello.
The performances are connected to Afif’s exhibition “Five Preludes” at Hamburger Bahnhof, the artist’s first institutional solo exhibition in Berlin. Bringing together five major bodies of work, the exhibition offers insight into Afif’s long-term practice, in which texts, music and performance continuously extend and reinterpret his artworks.

Der Abend bringt zwei Live-Interpretationen von Afifs fortlaufenden Lyrics-Projekten auf die Bühne: „The Fountain Archives“ mit Kompositionen von Augustin Maurs für Stimme und Flöte, basierend auf Texten zu Marcel Duchamps Fountain, sowie „L’Humour noir“, bei dem Texte in einer freien Improvisation mit Stimme und Violoncello neu interpretiert werden.
Die Performances stehen im Zusammenhang mit Afifs Ausstellung „Five Preludes“ im Hamburger Bahnhof, der ersten institutionellen Einzelausstellung des Künstlers in Berlin. Mit fünf zentralen Werkkomplexen gibt sie Einblicke in seine Arbeitsweise, in der Texte, Musik und Performance seine Werke kontinuierlich erweitern und neu interpretieren.

In “We Make Years Out of Hours”, twelve performers continuously rearrange the wooden cubes into temporary formations while singing fragments of 15 poems by international writers from the early twentieth century to today.
The performance unfolds as an evolving choreography in the Historic Hall shaped by repetition, collaboration, and constant change. Visitors are invited to move through the installation and actively participate in reshaping the landscape, becoming part of the work’s shifting rhythm and collective atmosphere.
🕒Performances take place every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday from 2–5pm.

Eine fortlaufende Choreografie aus Klang, Bewegung und kollektiver Handlung 🎶
In „We Make Years Out of Hours“ formen zwölf Performerinnen fortlaufend temporäre Strukturen aus Holzwürfeln und singen Fragmente aus 15 Gedichten internationaler Autorinnen des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts bis heute.
Die Performance entfaltet sich in der Historischen Halle als sich stetig wandelnde Choreografie, geprägt von Wiederholung, Zusammenarbeit und Veränderung. Besucher*innen sind eingeladen, sich durch die Installation zu bewegen und die Landschaft aktiv mitzugestalten und so Teil ihres kollektiven Rhythmus und ihrer Atmosphäre zu werden.
🕒 Die Performances finden jeweils dienstags, donnerstags, samstags und sonntags von 14–17 Uhr statt.

Petrits first major institutional solo exhibition in Berlin brings together sculptures, installations, videos and site-specific works that explore freedom, intimacy, identity and collective dreaming. At the centre of the exhibition is the artist’s first opera “Syrigana”.
To celebrate the exhibition’s closing, Halilaj presents “Syrigana” on 29 & 30 May in a special concert version. With 11 musicians, two sopranos and the wedding band “Don’t Listen to Your Neighbors” conducted by Marco Crispo, the opera transforms the exhibition space into a dreamlike live performance exploring queer love through music, voice and marionette performance. We look forward to seeing you there!

As part of our 30th anniversary, we are expanding the exhibition space into the city through the event series “Hamburger Bahnhof on Tour”. The series began with three performances to “OFF SCORE” by Annika Kahrs and now continues with performances by Saâdane Afif.
For Afif’s programme, the various lyrics created in response to the works in the exhibition will be performed in different forms and interpretations.
The programme opens on 28 May with a performance of the lyrics written for “The Fountain Archives” and “Anthologie de l’humour noir”. The event begins at 8 pm at Roter Salon der Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. We look forward to seeing you there. Tickets:.

Saâdane Afifs erste institutionelle Einzelausstellung in Berlin, “Five Preludes”, bietet einen umfassenden Einblick in das Werk des interdisziplinär arbeitenden Künstlers. In der Ausstellung wird jede Arbeit von Songtexten verschiedener Künstler:innen begleitet, die sich jeweils auf die einzelnen Werke beziehen.
Anlässlich unseres 30-jährigen Jubiläums erweitern wir den Ausstellungsraum mit der Veranstaltungsreihe “Hamburger Bahnhof on Tour” in den Stadtraum hinein. Den Auftakt bildeten drei Performances zu “OFF SCORE” von Annika Kahrs, nun folgt das Performanceprogramm von Saâdane Afif.
