Back then, finding halal food or a masjid abroad wasn’t easy. I only had as my travel guide! I planned every little detail before the trip, determined to experience the city while staying true to my values.
One evening, my mom and I went searching for Mezquita Tariq Bin Ziyad, just behind La Ramblas. It was Maghrib time, the streets were narrow and unfamiliar, and we had no idea where we were heading 😅 But somehow, it felt thrilling like real real adventure.
When we finally found the mosque, we discovered it was for men only! What a surprise. We laughed then, and we still laugh about it now.
Funny enough, that little adventure became the start of something bigger; my journey into Halal Travel Style. 😊
Visiting the Bajrakli Mosque was one of my top priorities in Belgrade, maybe one of the main reasons.
During the Ottoman era, this city echoed with the call to prayer from hundreds of mosques. Today, the Bajrakli Mosque stands alone; a small yet powerful symbol of endurance, faith, and identity.
It has witnessed centuries of change: conflict and peace, erasure and renewal, even transformation into a Catholic church under Austrian rule. And yet, it endures quietly, beautifully, steadfastly.
As a Halal Journalist, moments like this remind me why this work matters. Revealing that how cultures persevere, how heritage survives, and how stories live on in the stones and souls of cities.
