In the early years, Nick was a regular on the location BJJ comp scene, bringing home countless medals along the way. After earning his purple belt in 2011, Nick would eventually have to take some time off the mats with injuries and family priorities, but still remained close to the team the entire time. He eventually returned in a coaching capacity, both with the adult competitors and our youth program, as his two children had begun training during his time away.

Slowly but surely, Nick would return to regular training sessions and, when he felt he was prepared physically and mentally, stepped back in the mats at an Open in New Jersey this past fall. Returning to competition after a hiatus that spanned over a decade is no easy task in general. Doing it at an ADCC event, not to mention the expert division, is something else entirely. Nick did incredible, reaching the finals to earn a Silver medal with two submission wins along the way!

It just goes to show everyone that, many times, reasons we give for not putting it on the line can often be overcome with enough time, patience, and commitment. Commitment to the GC program is something Nick has never lacked in. He has seen some of our teams fighters come through the amateur ranks, and eventually fight on the highest levels as pros. He’s also been an enormous piece of our youth program, and a huge reason why it’s expanded and continues to grow year after year.

Congratulations to Nick on this awesome achievement! It’s been a long road to this particular stop on the journey, but we are honored to walk it along with you! You certainly earned it!

We can’t justly articulate the impact this guy has had on our program since he began training several years ago. We knew early on Eli’s future would be bright. Not because of his natural athleticism and ability to absorb techniques being taught, although he certainly checked those boxes. What stood out the most was the fact that he was constantly on the mats. Not only for scheduled classes, but also during off hours. He jumped into competitions early in his Jiu jitsu venture, seeing success early on. The pinnacle, however, came this summer in Las Vegas, when entered the Jiu Jitsu Con Tournament as the last seed, and walked out as a champion.

As a coach, Eli has been one of our most popular instructors. No matter the skill level his working with, people are always quick to pack the mats when they know Eli is covering a training session. In competition, whether it be in Jiu Jitsu tournaments or MMA, his teammates know they’re in good hands. As said last night, Eli displays all the attributes necessary to, not only make a great coach and cornerman, but possibly take over the team as the head coach one day in the future.
