Trinity Sunday at St Bartholomew the Great
For Whitsunday we inaugurated our new service of Holy Communion in the High Church tradition. 🕊️🔥

Now celebrated every Sunday at 5pm in St Bartholomew the Less, the service follows the practices of High Church divines such as William Laud, John Cosin and Lancelot Andrewes.

The choir sings pieces exclusively from the English choral tradition, with the celebrant at the north end of the altar and the clergy wearing copes.

The new service allows members of the congregation who cannot make our morning Choral Eucharist to receive Holy Communion later on Sundays.

After the service, the congregations of Holy Communion and our Evensong in St Bartholomew the Great can convene for refreshments in the cloister.

Following our Choral Eucharist for Ascension Day, we upheld the ancient tradition of Beating the Bounds.

We walked the parish boundaries with sticks and wands, stopping for prayers and to support our local pubs along the way.

Yesterday we were joined by 600 (City of London) Squadron RAuxAF for our Choral Eucharist, following their annual Service of Remembrance in the Lady Chapel.

The Squadron’s original Standard is also laid up in the Lady Chapel, alongside its Malta Stone and a memorial unveiled by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in 1950.

Today we join with the whole Church, Nation and Commonwealth in giving thanks to God for the life and service of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

We also remember two of her visits to St Bartholomew the Great shown in these photographs from our archives.

Endue her plenteously with heavenly gifts… and finally after this life she may attain everlasting joy and felicity; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
