Thanks for the memories, Lakeside.
If you are looking for an end-of-summer family getaway, we highly recommend Lakeside Chautauqua, OH! ๐ŸŒŠ As we mentioned earlier this week, we were fortunate to partner with, who covered our accommodations and entrance fee to the community. ๐ŸŒŠ Here are some of the things we did and saw while we were there:
1-2.) We walked along the lake and checked out the Lakeside Pavilion. 3.) Shuffleboard was free, and the kids picked up on it pretty quickly! 4.) Whistle Stop has yummy caramel corn we grabbed and took with us to the beach. 5-6.) We did a little shopping in the business district. I especially loved the Great Lakes bags at Wise Woman Boutique. ๐Ÿ˜ 7.) Of course we had to try our hand at mini golf (small charge per person, I believe it was $4). 8-9.) We visited The Patio several times for lunch and ice cream 10.) We tried paddle boarding for the first time! You can rent them for $10 per half hour at the beach. 11-12.) we enjoyed the numerous swimming amenities. Lakesideโ€™s entrance fee includes access to their beach and pier swimming area, a lakeside kids pool with adjoining splash pad, and an aquatics center that includes a pool with water slides and kids splash toys. 13-14.) we enjoyed ice cream from Coffee and Cream while we strolled downtown at dusk. They have an area with giant games and seating where people gathered to enjoy the evening. 15-16.) We enjoyed watching the sunset over the lake before finishing our night with a DJ and dance party on the pavilion deck! BONUS: I forgot to add a pizza photo, but we enjoyed twice while we were there! Itโ€™s delicious! ๐Ÿ•๐ŸŒŠ
The GLL crew wished summer vacation a fond farewell last weekend with a nostalgic getaway to one of our favorite Lake Erie coastal towns. โค๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ˜Ž We partnered with for two days of family fun and a night at the historic Hotel Lakeside, which celebrated its 150th anniversary this year! Thank you so much to and Hotel Lakeside for accommodating us! ๐ŸŒŠ Lakeside Chautauqua is such a unique summer getaway. It feels like you step back in time when you enter the gates of this lovely community, situated about halfway between Cleveland and Toledo, OH. ๐ŸŒŠThere is a sense of community, family, and an emphasis on personal growth, combined with numerous sports and other activities, all amidst the backdrop of Lake Erie, that makes visiting Lakeside feel akin to a childhood summer camp experience. ๐ŸŒŠ The day slows down as friendly faces meander down the main streets during the day for shopping or taking part in shuffle board or a game of mini golf. ๐ŸŒŠ I think this stretch of the lake may have the prettiest walking path there is, with the water and gardens on one side and gorgeous summer houses and parks on the other. ๐ŸŒŠ Staying at Hotel Lakeside was a great way to really lean into the nostalgic feel of it all. With a great location right near the beachโ€™s main hub, it was a perfect location for walking to activities. We also enjoyed just relaxing on the front porch and watching people walk by the lake. ๐ŸŒŠ I honestly canโ€™t imagine a more perfect way to give summer a proper send-off than jumping off the pier at Lakeside. โค๏ธ Stay tuned for a rundown of everywhere we went on our trip! ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒŠ
Hello friends! The last several weeks have been busy with Great Lakes travel, and Iโ€™ve finally had some time to take a breath and share a bit with you. In July, we traveled up to Arcadia, MI. What a beautiful place! We hiked the Baldy Dune trail. Here was the view at Lake Michigan. We also checked out Inspiration Point. Along our travels, we saw Manistee, Ludington, and Saugutuck/Douglas. Iโ€™ll share more soon!
July is in full swing, and I can hear adventure calling me. โค๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ July is always the busiest month for us to travel the Great Lakes. We will be checking out Manistee, MI for the first time this month, and I am very tempted to take a day trip up to Sleeping Bear Dunes while we are there. When in Rome, right? ๐Ÿ˜
Well, Iโ€™m a day late because I was so busy enjoying the gorgeous weather on the 4th, but I still want to wish everyone a happy and safe Independence Day weekend! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒญโ˜€๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธโค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™
I thought it was pretty cool that I was able to capture the people looking down from Perryโ€™s Monument at Put-in-Bay the other day! Especially considering I took this from the back of our golf cart while we were driving around town! ๐Ÿ˜ ๐ŸŒŠ Perryโ€™s Victory and International Peace Memorial is located on South Bass island in western Lake Erie. This Doric column was built to honor those who fought in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. It also celebrates the peace among Great Britain, Canada, and the U.S. ๐ŸŒŠ Rising 352 feet over Lake Erie, Perryโ€™s monument is the only international peace memorial in the United States National Park System and stands 47 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty! Itโ€™s a must-see when visiting Lake Erie. ๐ŸŒŠ
Michigan boasts the longest freshwater coastline in the United States, and we have tried our best over the last ten years to take advantage of it! ๐ŸŒŠ In addition to beaches along the Great Lakes, we have also discovered quite a few awesome beaches around some of Michiganโ€™s lovely inland lakes. ๐ŸŒŠ Hereโ€™s our picks so far. Let us know where we should go next! ๐ŸŒŠ 1.) Holland State Park (huge beach, tons of parking, playground, bathrooms, etc.) 2.) William Good Day Park (Located in Kewadin, the only real public beach on Torch Lake) 3.) North Bar Lake (Sleeping Bear Dunes, a quiet beach you can walk along as the lake empties into Lake Michigan) 4.) Michigan Beach Park (Charlevoix, has great amenities) 5.) and 6.) South and North Higgins Lake State Park (Roscommon, a lovely and clear lake reminiscent of the famous Torch Lake with two great beaches to choose from) 7.) Petoskey State Park (Also used as the cover photo, a nice-sized beach in Northern Michigan with great amenities such as bathrooms, store, rentals, etc.) 8.) Bryant Park (Traverse City, our favorite beach when we first visited, nice playground) 9.) Muskegon Stare Park (A large beach with tons of amenities, including a really cool adventure sports park. We havenโ€™t gotten to try out the sports park yet, but itโ€™s on our to-do list!) 10.) Platte River Point Beach (Sleeping Bear Dunes, we love the shallow areas for the kids to play and the beautiful views of the dunes in the distance) 11.) Grand Haven State Park (Grand Haven was one of our very first trips to a Michigan โ€œbeach town,โ€ so this beach holds a special place in our hearts) 12.) Esch Road/Otter Creek Beach (Sleeping Bear Dunes, such a fun place to wade in the Otter Creek as it empties into the beautiful Lake Michigan) ๐ŸŒŠ ๐ŸŒŠ #greatlakes #greatlakesloving #beach

Miners Falls (Munising) 3.) Michigan Beach Park/South Pier Lighthouse (Charlevoix) 4.) Lavender Hill Farm (Boyne City) 5.) Miners Castle (Munising) 6.) Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive (Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore) 7.) Ocqueoc Falls (Rogers City) 8.) Petoskey State Park sunset (Petoskey) 9.) Tahquamenon Falls (Whitefish Township, Upper Peninsula) 10.) Mackinac Bridge 11.) Barnes Park Campground (Eastport) 12.) Chain of Lakes Area (Torch Township) 13.) Rifle River 14.)
