My love has no limit. It does not shrink with time, circumstances, titles, or blood. It simply exists endlessly, fiercely, unconditionally. And no matter where life takes us, my children will always have me. Fully. Steadily. Without question.
Sometimes I look at them and think: this is exactly why God created me… to be their safe place. Their home. Their mom.

Few people can say a teacher taught them for three grades in elementary school, and even fewer can say that the same teacher later taught their child. Well, I’m one of those few—lucky enough… actually, blessed enough—to say that the teacher who taught me in three grades of elementary school also taught my daughter. That amazing teacher is Mrs. Adelfa Concepcion!
But when I met her at 5 years old in 1994, she was Ms. Hernandez. She was only covering a maternity leave, but she quickly became a special person in my life. Her last day in my kindergarten class happened to be my 6th birthday, and I remember our goodbye hug was tight. The picture from that day is still one of my favorites.
Little did I know that that goodbye hug in kindergarten, was a see you later hug. Ms. Hernandez became Mrs. Concepcion and also my second and third grade teacher. She went through a lot during those years, and as a class, we became a family and went through it with her. She taught us love, friendship, compassion, strength and yes, of course, math, science, social studies and language arts—but the life lessons she instilled were far greater than any educational material she could have taught. To this day, I still keep in touch with many of my second and third grade classmates, and it’s all because of Mrs. Concepcion and the love she pours into her students. I asked my parents what they thought of her and both said she is a beautiful person and an amazing teacher!
Of course, I grew up and painfully had to leave elementary school, but Mrs. Concepcion kept in touch with my family and I. She went on to teach my cousins, nieces, and nephews. She has been there for me as a friend, actually as part of my family, during many important moments in my life, including my quinces, wedding, gender reveal and many more important events.
