Just a few blocks into our morning walk, a dog got away from her owner and came after Myles. She bit him in the shoulder and elbow and he needed a few stitches.
Her people felt terrible. And it was a reminder for us all that things can happen lightening-fast when you have dogs!
I’ll be sharing my blog post on what you need to know about emergency vets next week. For now, we’re going to have a quiet weekend cuddling Myles. 🐾
Covering more than 7,000 miles and 23 states in 32 days kept us busy. It was truly memorable! And we’re so grateful for the time we got to spend with our family.

We stopped just outside St. Louis at Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site (all the trails are pet friendly) for a sniff. You can even see the Arch in the background! Then we went to St. Charles where this St. Bernard wanted to pose with me.
The next day we went to a dog park / bar / restaurant in Kansas City and I mixed it up with the local pups.
Now we’re in Colorado and today we hiked an awesome trail. I even barked at three deer and some grouse along the way. It was perfect!
Tomorrow it’s time to start our drive home. Can you believe we’ve been gone a month?! I think my toys probably miss me. And it will be nice to run around in the yard again. 🐾❤️🐾
First, we stayed at a really nice (and very pet friendly) hotel called the Lodge at Deadwood in Deadwood, South Dakota. But I’m going to warn you — they have an unusual landscaping crew that mowed down all the flowers!
In the morning we went downtown and I made a new friend called “Wild Bill,” though he seemed pretty relaxed to me. Then we got breakfast at The Pump House and they brought me a bacon-wrapped Milk Bone. BEST BREAKFAST EVER!!
Next we stopped to see an extra big statue, and I looked everywhere but at the camera during picture time. That always drive my parents nuts. 🤣
Then we spent a long weekend with Grandma and Grandpa and I had soooo much fun! When it was time to get back on the road I was feeling a little sad, so they gave me some good ear scratches to make me feel better. ❤️
Tonight we’re in Ohio, and tomorrow we’ll get to Pennsylvania to visit Nanny (Rod’s mom), who turned 99 in May. I can’t wait to see her, because she gives good belly rubs! And I’m excited to play with my cousins and aunts and uncles! It’s going to be a busy few days, so I better go enjoy a nap while I can! 🐾❤️🐾
We spent the first night just outside the South Gate of the Grand Canyon, which worked perfectly. There was no pressure to get there by any particular time, so we stopped to walk around Flagstaff and have dinner before finishing up the drive and calling it a day. The Red Feather Lodge was clean and convenient, though their motel rooms were a little small. Next time I’d book a room in their lodge.
The weather was predicted to be hot yesterday, even at 6,800 feet in elevation! So we got up early and set out on the South Rim Trail at 7am. We walked 5 miles and enjoyed the views while Myles tried to pounce on chipmunks, squirrels and lizards. 🤣 We got back to the car just before 10am, and the temperature was already 82 degrees.
Myles was more than ready for a nap and slept most of the way to Kanab. After a short break to stretch our legs and fill up the car, we continued on to Panguitch. Our motel, the Lamplighter Lodge, was bare-bones but clean. And we like being able to park right outside the room. It makes carrying all our / Myles’ stuff into the room so much easier!
Tonight we’ll be just south of Salt Lake City where Rod is spending tomorrow coaching a team of business owners. On Sunday we’ll drive to Idaho Falls for an overnight with dear friends we met while RVing. 🥳 On Monday, we head east — making our way toward my parents’ home in Wisconsin. 🐾
