I remember this art class in the 3rd standard,
I remember it because I didn’t know how to spell actress.
“Draw what you want to be when you’re older.”
I wrote actorss next to my drawing
It wasn’t some grand plan. It wasn’t some deep desire. Doctor or engineer didn’t seem colorful enough to draw, so actorss it was.
It’s funny, sitting where I am today, an IMDb page, a web series out (actually two, but more on that another time), and so much more to come.
The lightness with which I dreamt is probably what made it possible.
No strings attached. Nothing to lose. No one i know.
For the longest time, I felt like an imposter calling myself an actor.
I can’t claim to be an avid movie lover,
but I do claim to be an avid lover of life in all its turbulence.
There’s a very deep desire in me to chew on it, taste it, digest it.
Roll around in it till it enters every pore on my skins surface.
There’s immense gratitude
for how deeply life cuts you and
how gently it can lift you back up.
On paper, this line of work doesn’t make much sense for someone like me.
I’m extremely sensitive to my environment.
My anxiety can be through the roof if there’s more than one person around me, but put me on a set and something just works.
I guess it’s also knowing it’s me but it’s not me? That in character, i feel a little more free

it comes from knowing the sheer immensity of labour that goes into a single frame.
All the people involved.
How difficult and lonely it can be.
How unfair it can be, but oh so juicy.
I’m just grateful.
