Motherhood is such a brilliantly humbling experience. Never have I ever been more content with giving something (or someone) all of me. But day by day I notice my baby turning into a toddler, and I’ve started to feel a sort of fog lift.
With Sev turning 10 months soon, he’s getting to be much MORE; more active, more social, more independent, more able, more curious, more confident. I would have imagined I’d be even more encompassed by mothering at this stage, but I’ve found it a kin to coming to a clearing.
We’re coming out of the woods of baby-hood, and I don’t have to be right-next-to-him all the time. I can let him go a little farther, explore a little more. And as that radius expands (slowly, centimeter by centimeter), I’ve discovered room for parts of myself that I haven’t seen much of since giving birth. It feels exciting, like welcoming old friends. I also have another thought nagging my brain… That this must be a merciful balm to help mothers cope with their babies not being babies anymore.

Every time I’ve heard this line from The Great Divide album (which is a lot bc it’s been on 🔁), I’m usually doing some mundane thing with Sev; feeding him lunch, getting him dressed, going for a walk, watching him cruise/play— and I think “yeah, I wouldn’t mind at all.”
If “heaven” is the moments of becoming his mom, I’ll take it. 💛

When we moved into our new place last month (and not across the country?), my “studio” became a catchall room. There are piles and piles, reaching past my shoulders. While I’m not sure what the future holds for Glass Hus, I do know it involves being able to see the floor in this room😬✨
One part of the cleaning/organizing process that I’ve been enjoying is discovering all the art supplies I forgot I had! I’m excited to work on some non glass mediums. And who knows… maybe I’m not saying “goodbye” to stained glass after all!
P.S. if “extinction” feels too final of an analogy, don’t worry, we’re using it in the Spielberg “life finds a way” context!

After relocating to Juneau AK from our rural town at just shy of 38 weeks, our July baby decided to make it an extended stay by arriving 10 days past his due date!
I went into labor on August 1st, and Adam and I welcome our son into the world just after 3am on August 2nd, at the Juneau Family and Birth Center, under care of our amazing midwives Ambur and Joelle.
Little man surprised us not only by being fashionably late, but by measuring 22” and weighing just under 10lbs!!! His birth was intense and challenging and in the end, everything I needed it to be. I’ve never felt stronger and softer than when I brought our boy into the world. And I’ve never felt more complete since having him here with us earthside.
We’ve been back on our island for less than 24hrs, and are soaking up our newborn bubble as much as possible before dad has to return to work on Tuesday:’)
The irony of waiting so long and impatiently for our son, and now just wishing time would slow down, is not lost on me
We are officially rounding out a week of newborn life, and I can honestly say: I love it here 🩵
Fun fact: we live on an island in Alaska where there are no facilities for families to give birth. This means that as rural families near term, they have to decide where to relocate for the birth. In Alaska, those options are usually Anchorage or Juneau. In our case we were away from home, living in an Airbnb (that’s to thank for the amazing view), for a month to the day before we could finally journey home with our 5 day old son.
I figure with week 39 on the horizon, it wouldn’t hurt to pump up the oxytocin with a little recap of the adventure thus far 🥰
From absolutely shocked, to cautiously optimistic, to downright smitten with this little life— it’s been such a wonderful experience to carry our son and dream about becoming parents together.
