ينطلق هذا العمل من تساؤل أساسي حول معنى الجماعة في سياق المنفى: كيف يمكن لأفراد أن يجتمعوا في فعل واحد، دون أن يتقاسموا المعنى نفسه؟ يقترح العمل قراءة للمنفى بوصفه تجربة تُنتج حضورًا جماعيًا ظاهريًا، تخفي خلفه تفرّدًا عميقًا في التجربة والذاكرة والصوت.
تجسّد اللوحة مجموعة من الأفراد يجتمعون في فعل الغناء، لكن دون لحن موحّد. كل صوت يسير في اتجاهه الخاص، حاملًا ذاكرته وتجربته الفردية في المنفى. الجوقة هنا لا تمثّل الانسجام، بل التزامن؛ اجتماع أصوات مختلفة يجمعها المكان واللحظة، لا المعنى ولا الانتماء.

"From the Earth to the Thread", which explores the subtle lines of influence between architecture, landscape, and Yemeni women’s clothing patterns.
In this research, I focused on four Yemeni cities, Sana’a, Aden, Taiz, and Hadramout.
Each one is distinct in its climate, geography, architecture, and landscape, shaping a unique relationship between the body, the built environment, and the patterns that inhabit daily life.
Hadramout Series..
In Hadramout, geometry becomes a form of silence, a rhythm through which the land, architecture, and clothing speak to one another.
The desert, vast and disciplined, teaches repetition; the light, sharp and measured, draws lines that define both buildings and bodies.
From this landscape of restraint emerges an aesthetic of order. The mud architecture of Hadramout, its stepped crowns, aligned openings, and carved geometric motifs, is a choreography of shadow and proportion. It mirrors the design of the Hadrami thobe, where the neckline, sleeves, and hemline trace lines of precision reminiscent of architectural cornices and ornamental borders.
The embroidery, composed of triangles, diamonds, and continuous patterns, extends this dialogue, a translation of structure into gesture, of façade into fabric.
Even the velvet texture of the thobe carries the memory of place: its folds move like dunes under the wind, its weight holds the density and endurance of desert life.
Here, geometry transcends function, it becomes a bridge between body and architecture, between earth and form, where repetition is not mere design but an act of remembrance.

From the Earth to the Thread: The Natural and Architectural Influences on Yemeni Women’s Clothing Patterns
In Aden, where the climate is hot and humid, The traditional dress “dir’ah” “درع" is a dress inspired by this climate! A chiffon, porous fabric that resembles the mashrabiyas on the windows of ancient Adeni houses.
The mashrabiya is an architectural element carved in wood in the shape of small diamonds, which allows for natural ventilation and the ability to look outside discreetly.
The relationship I seek here is more about the resemblance between the architectural assembly of the mashrabiya and the weaving of the “dir’ah.”
