Your iPhone has crash detection built in. If it detects a severe impact and you don’t respond in 20 seconds, it calls 911 and sends your GPS location to your emergency contacts.

Good news: meniscus is intact & the knee doesn’t require surgery.

Bad news: the side impact force from the dog mid-run paired with my attempt to pull away caused an inward twisting trauma to the knee that resulted in a Nondisplaced transverse fracture and mild MCL sprain. This explains why I needed a cane to get around the last couple weeks & should’ve been on crutches 😵‍💫 At least the pain is better

On the positive side;
- It doesn’t bother me swimming or cycling on my bike so I’ve been able to keep those up & resume workouts.
- The bone is already healing & rebuilding at a fast rate according to the scan & help from Softwave therapy & laser hivamat from Regional Rehab. Also thank you for the healing supplements!
- Doctors say the location & type of fracture is in my favor so some weight bearing (walking) is allowable now as long as there is no pain. And he gave me a brace to further protect the knee & prevent twisting as it heals.
- I can try elliptical & 40lbs off the next 2 weeks & then possibly back to running after that as long as everything keeps progressing at its current rate.
- This time is allowing me to strengthen my weaker 🦿 left leg more so by the time my right knee is better, both legs should be more even/symmetrical! I’ve also been able to really focus on getting stronger on the bike & swim, and get a lot of work done on my book.

This is not what I wanted & it’s been disappointing/frustrating… but it could’ve been much worse so I’m thankful it’s not. I’m still trusting & believing that God can work this out for good, and trying to look at it as a productive pause vs a setback.

Someone commented this on our post about 70 dead cyclists.

He’s not wrong. That is the culture. That is what we’re fighting.

A 5-year-old was killed on the Fourth of July riding his bike in his neighborhood. “Don’t ride on the street.”

He was five. Where was he supposed to ride?

Be outraged. Share this post with everyone. We fight this culture in court, with our support of cycling events and athletes, with our law changes. How do you fight this culture?
22 days. 70 riders killed on American roads.

Six of them were children.

A 5-year-old in Toledo, killed on the Fourth of July while riding his bike in his neighborhood. A 12-year-old girl in Ellicott City. A 15-year-old in Michigan hit by a semi. A 15-year-old in Boise. A 20-year-old woman crushed by a tractor-trailer in Manhattan. A 25-year-old woman hit by a truck in Brooklyn at midnight.

Florida has killed 12 cyclists in 22 days. That’s where I’m from. That’s where I learned to ride a bike. Rosa Lee Watson was killed on Scenic Highway in Lake Wales — my hometown.

New York killed a 20-year-old and a 25-year-old in the same week. My daughter lives and rides there.

Oregon lost Connor Navarro — 19 years old, riding home from work in Hillsboro. That’s my home now.

We count because no one else does. We name them because the news cycle moves on in 24 hours. We don’t stop because the killing doesn’t stop.

70 riders. 22 days. 6 children.

Someone should be counting.

I was so looking forward to running it, but after getting attacked & bitten on my right hip by a dog while running Saturday, I tweaked my (good) right knee during the encounter and am currently walking in pain with a cane waiting to get an MRI this weekend. So now I have 2 bad legs but at least they’ll be more even/symmetrical now…😅lol

Thankfully, the owner is being very nice & cooperative, and offered to help and is standing by if needed. is also helping me with Softwave therapy to accelerate healing, along with k laser therapy from Regional Rehab.

Although I’m disappointed, I still believe that God can use all things to work together for good, even this pause... My summer felt so busy and was slipping by fast, but now I’ve been able to use this time as an opportunity to really focus more on writing my book. Up to 90 pages now;)

Every single one of these is an admission of negligence. Every single one. And drivers say them to police like they’re excuses.
November 15th to January 23rd progression. After getting hit by a vehicle (hit & run) while riding my bike prepping for Ironman Cozumel.

Spinal & neck fractures:
T4- T5 compression fractures
T10 & L2 burst fractures
T8 & T9 spinous process fractures
C7 transverse fracture
T9-T11 fixation fusion
T10& L2 kyphoplasty
Double impact concussion

9 Fractured ribs
Sternum fracture
L scapula fracture
Level 3 liver laceration
L metal elbow reopened
L Patella knee cap fracture
L Tibia/Fibula complete break & 2 rod infusions

I spent 29 days in the hospital and was finally released December 14th. The doctors said that by looking at the x rays, they would have assumed I was paralyzed & it was a miracle I wasn’t. It is only by God’s grace that I’m still alive. He saved me and is healing me. Thank you so much everyone who has been praying, because I know that God answers prayers.

The recovery journey continues but I’m feeling hopeful that I’ll get to return to a pro start line at an To be continued…

is still searching for the driver and trying to help bring about positive change.

I’m still in shock and so thankful to God for a successful day, especially after how incredibly challenging this year has been with the elbow infection, injuries, surgeries, and health issues. Thank you Ironman Chattanooga for an amazing experience & the volunteers were fantastic! It was an honor to race with such talented strong ladies, and It means so much to get my first pro top 5 here where it all started 4 years ago.

I couldn’t have done it alone, and I’m so thankful to my support team of coaches (Rebecca swim coaches Scott at Lake Gators & Sara at ), sponsors, family, and friends for making this possible. Also, a big thank you to for being an outstanding Sherpa and making this trip so much fun, and Kelly & Jeremy for being an amazing host family!

More detailed race report coming in the next few days.

IM Cozumel #13th IM: 9th F pro
1st time top 10!!💰
1st 🇺🇸Fem
9:32 IM PR on a true course (not short & w/ a 🏊🏼‍♀️ that didn’t assist much this year lol)

So thankful to God for finally making top 10 with a super competitive & talented women’s field that had 5 Kona WC spots fresh on the line! Ended up with the 3rd fastest female run of the day (ran from 21st place off the bike to 9th). I’m still in shock… So thankful to finally see my hard work this year pay off & feel more like I belong & can be competitive!

The swim was a bit tough, they told us at the pro meeting that the current wouldn’t be in our favor this year. They were right… 🤦🏻‍♀️lol It wasn’t the fast swim I was expecting, but thankful to still brake 1 hour! My foot cramped up bad half way into the swim (which was pretty scary) so I had to make a lot of adjustments with my effort & hydration the rest of the race and play catch up.

I started the bike at my target watts but my HR & effort level was unusually high (probably because I was already dehydrated) so I switched to HR & feel instead for the bike and run. I really listened to my body the rest of the race (tried not to get the HR too high because I knew what the heat can do, coming from FL 🔥😅) & got in extra fluids & electrolytes. It felt like there was mostly headwind everywhere on the bike, & the bike was a lot slower than I wanted but at least I finally got better hydrated to set up for a stronger run! And the run went much better, thankfully:) More details coming up later!

Thank you so much to my awesome dad for being the best Sherpa through all of the stressful craziness this week 😵‍💫. Thank you to my amazing team of coaches & Coach who’s been getting me faster for 9 years, thank you family and friends for your encouragement & believing in me, and thank you so much sponsors for your support!!

Excited to end this long tri season strong on a high note, start planning my season for next year, and now enjoy some off season fun!!
