Planning, as I was saying in the previous post, could be very challenging but also very fun. For instance if I was missing from Berlin since 5 years, I lot of things changed and new things came out. That is the case of the new building of Axel Springer, a famous editorial company founded in 1946. It was decided to give form to a new facility due to the recent move from print to digital media. OMA was called for such this great work that saw end in 2020. The building is situated opposite the existing Axel Springer headquarters on Zimmerstrasse, a street which previously was separated East and West Berlin. The new face of the Axel Spinger, configures itself as a diagonal atrium that opens up to the existing Axel Springer buildings. The main character of the design is a series of terraced floors that together form a ‘valley’.
For instance, the most attractive feature I really enjoyed is the big, anamorphic and patterned glass-façade with triangular modules, that creates a sort of animation that comes out from the rigidity of the linear volume.

A couple of weeks ago I was going back to Copenhagen via Berlin. Luckily I had a bunch of hours before taking the flight at the airport; so what better chance of getting back to some healthy archi-photo tour again?
After these years and many journeys I could say that planning is by far the most exhausting and crucial part of each one of them. Not only listing places, but trying to build a proper route for each day, considering the sun path, if they're open or not. So many variables. 6 spost were on my bucket list and 6 (maybe 2 more) I was able to discover.
Aldo Rossi, the first Italian Pritzker Price, left his footprints in the German capital, creating and thus dividing land into small plots for the Quartier Schützenstrasse which is situated nearby Checkpoint Charlie. A beautiful interplay of individual plots and facades, this urban complex is a collage of icons and archetypes, with several obvious references to other Rossi buildings as well as historical references.

A new academic year is about to start at Aalborg Universitet København and I am really thrilled at the idea of going back to work in this fantastic campus, that provides endless possibilities and opportunities for every person that gravitates around. Rotunden is the main hall that grows up to 5 stories and where people from different activities, gather all together to spend some spare time, chatting and having lunch together. The transition from floor to floor is facilitated by the skinny spiral staircase that connect all the floors.
Obviously the combination stairs plus stories, lead me to shoot this interesting location.

I've never thought of having the chance of going back to photography again. Honestly I lost the motivation across this year because I was involved in some many different things and absorbed in other ways that I could not focus properly. After all also, the pandemic kept us away from the possibility of traveling, so we could not reach our favorite place to visit. But I really needed some time in order to recharge my batteries and so my mind. The Odyssey I undertook for my journey back to København gave me the first chance: arrived to München via Brixen, IT, i needed to wait 2 hours for my train connection to Berlin. Do you think have I sat down and just wait? Of course no, so I managed to find the closest spot I could reach by walking and here it is.
The "Umschreibung" by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson who designed this endless spiraling effect achieved by 2 starircases interlocking with each other, creating a continuous loop in the form of a double Helix.

Today I hit One year since I've moved to Denmark. Time has really run fast but I am tremendously excited and happy to be here, to have set my new life and having great expectations for this upcoming semesters.
I recently got home from my Italian relaxing vacation and it was the time to bring to life again some shots that I took of this authentic beauty located on the top of. The Messner Mountain Museum designed by and completed in 2015, it's the perfect example of integration between natural landscape and architecture. It dominates the entire valleys with dedicated panoramas and features the museum entitled to. Definitely worth a visit.

The Niels Bohr Building is an iconic home for the Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen. It was designed by and in collaboration with EmSE + UK and Collin Gordon Associates and was finished to be built last year 2021. It's connected by a skywalk across one Norrebro's busiest roads. What come for first to your eyes is certainly the glass façade which consists of custom-made ‘pixels’, designed according to a geometry pattern that makes the building come alive as it interacts with the light during the day. To support way finding and to create a sense of identity, different materials and colors were used so that every place is unique. And if you think Sustainable is a trend then you are totally wrong: in fact the prisms on the façade work as a noise-cancelling envelope reducing transmission losses, and the cavities will preheat the air from outside that is drawn into the building. Moreover during the design, Architects had to deal with UN Sustainable goals and issues related to "Good Health and well-being", "Quality education", "Affordable and clean energy" and many more.

Copenhagen International School is a new and interesting project, located Nordhavn, a fast growing area that will see enormous developments in the future. Designed by
and completed in 2017 has become Copenhagen's largest school. The main concept was to link the architecture features for a school premises with the public sphere in the urban environment; for this reason the promenade outside the school will become an urban port-side space providing opportunities for relaxation and various activities.
What I really find very attractive is the facade, which is covered in 12,000 solar panels, and the link they have to Sustainable features: in fact the panels supply more than half of the school's annual electricity consumption. Moreover they allow students to monitor energy production and use data in physics and mathematics classes. The main school building is subdivided into four smaller “towers”, which also facilitates community, identity and easy wayfinding. The different ranges of the stories is a precise aim to adapt to the needs of children at different stages of development.
The outdoor area offers common activities such as including a foyer, sports facilities, a canteen and a library. Here the main future is that Architecture educates people: for instance the elevated school playground provides a secure environment, which prevents students from coming too close to the water.

Fuorisalone is about to finish and also this intense week. I had almost no time to visit anything so this weekend I was walking around. One of the things I've found was set in one of the treasures of Milan's architecture, Palazzo Isimbardi that once again this year hosted. Conifera was this year concept for the installation designed by architect Mamou Mani, consisting in hundreds of modular basket, 3D printed in renewable resources.

I found this interesting building while visiting the city’s famous Boqueria Market. It’s home for La Massana Fine Arts School in Barcelona on project of architect Carme Pinós.
What is cool is its dynamic shapes with intersecting volumes covered with red louvered ceramic cladding.
