Accessibility doesn’t ruin good design.
It just exposes bad design.

This Thursday we’re hosting a talk with #FriendsOfFigma Milan about a topic that is still treated as a constraint instead of a design responsibility.

Are #accessibility and aesthetics really incompatible?

We’ll explore real projects, real decisions, and practical examples with Girolamo Giannatempo

A quick update: I’m officially the new Friends of Figma Milan Leader.
It sounds like a long title, but it simply means I’ll be leading the #FriendsOfFigma community here in Milan.

Friends of Figma is a global network that brings together #designers, developers, and anyone who loves building digital products. The Milan chapter was already active — now it’s my turn to carry the torch.

It’s a recognition (and a responsibility) I’m really happy about, especially after many years spent working on design education and community building.
And yes… it basically means I’ll be organizing even more things than usual. Totally fine by me.

More events, meetups, and interesting initiatives coming soon.

Lovable just became a unicorn.
2.3M users. 180K paying. $75M in annual revenue.
And now: a $200M Series A, 8 months after launch.
With only 45 people in the team.

Cursor and Replit might want to pay attention.

I tried it months ago and didn’t think it would last. It felt clunky, shallow.
Turns out I was wrong.

Anthropic just released Connectors for #Claude.
One of them is for #Figma.
▶️ How it works:
• Open your Figma application
• Open a design file
• Enable Dev Mode in Figma
• Activate the MCP Server in the inspect panel
• Copy the node URL
• Paste it into Claude

Claude can read variables, components, layouts, and generate code from that. The output isn’t perfect yet, but the integration is surprisingly smooth.

If you’re into updates like this, I share more every week in my newsletter.

June was a full month, between training and events:

Photos 1, 2, and 3:
The fifth edition of the UI Design course at POLI.design has concluded: 88 hours combining theory and project work, working on real cases with partner companies. Every edition is different, but what always remains is seeing the groups tackle real problems, going beyond standard school exercises.

Photos 4 and 5:
I led a hands-on workshop in the Communication Design degree course at Politecnico di Milano: 65 designers, divided into 9 groups, worked for an entire week. Many of them had no prior experience with interface design, yet achieved impressive results. Zero theory, lots of practice and commitment.

Photos 6, 7, 8 and 9:
I was a speaker at We Make Future in Bologna with the talk “I used to think coding was just for developers.” I shared how AI can become a strategic tool for designers who want to go beyond, achieving more sophisticated outputs, with some real examples.

Just a quick monthly recap, nothing more. See you soon!

I’ve been quiet on here for a while — focusing on clients, teaching, and building new things.

But here’s something I keep seeing:
Many designers want to “level up” and think the next step is learning more tools.

Tools matter. But they won’t save you if you don’t learn to:
– Ask better questions
– Build scalable design decisions
– Collaborate beyond pixels
– Think in systems
That’s the shift from operator to designer.
I’ll be sharing more on this soon.

A few days ago #Midjourney released the update to V6.1

What’s new?
- More coherent images (e.g. more decent hands)
- Much better image quality (reduced pixel artifacts, enhanced textures, skin, etc)
- More precise, detailed, and correct small image features (eyes, small faces, far away hands, etc)
- New 2x upscalers with much better image / texture quality
- Roughly 25% faster for standard image jobs
- Improved text accuracy (when drawing words via “quotations” in prompts)
- A new —q 2 mode to add more texture (but reducing the coherence
- As stated by Midjourney, things should look “generally more beautiful” across the board

Note: V6.1 currently does not have a new inpainting/outpainting model so if you use zoom/reframe/repaint/vary region it will fall back to the V6.0 model.

👨‍💻 The speed with which tools like Midjourney are evolving is impressive, and the quality of output we can get today is astonishing.

Here are some pictures of some of my experiments.
Have you tried the V6.1 update yet? First impressions?

It’s been over a month now, but I wanted to post some shots and say a few thanks.

Last June 13th I had the honor of being a speaker at the, an incredible fair and festival on innovation and technology that allowed me to meet extraordinary people. I sincerely thank, and all the Search On Media Group staff for all the enormous work they do to organize an event of this magnitude.

I thank, Francesca Pulina and Nicola Bonora for the organization, moderation and company.
This opportunity not only allowed me to share my ideas on how #AI can help us design interfaces, but also to meet new people, reminding me how important #networking is, expanding my network and enriching my wealth of knowledge.

Thanks and for your photos.

🙏 A big thank you to everyone who participated and made this experience unforgettable. Let’s continue to explore and innovate!

Figma has introduced some AI-powered features: from the Actions menu, you have access to the AI-powered tools.

Now with AI, you can create prototyping interactions between your designs in a few clicks.

How to make a prototype with #AI?
1. Select the frames you want to create interactions between.
2. Actions menu, ‘Make Prototype’ or Prototype tab, ‘Make prototype’

You can edit or remove any interactions automatically added, or you can manually add more interactions.

Really helpful if you want to quickly build a basic prototype flow from your designs.

Some tips:
To remove all connections on a specific page, select the top-level frame, right-click and select “Remove interactions”.
To remove all connections on the current page, right click on the canvas and select “Remove all interactions”.

Have you tried the new AI tools yet?

This is the first video dedicated to the latest news.
With the new UI, in addition to the obvious updated aesthetic appearance, we have a few new things:
- Ability to collapse panels and resize them
- The top bar has been eliminated: now all the information about the file is in the right panel
- New tool bar at the bottom with the new “Actions” menu
- Ability to show property labels in the design panel
- New location for Constraints and new Layout section
- Small improvements for a more accessible interface, such as backgrounds in inputs

Maybe I’m getting old, but it seems like it will take some practice to get the confidence back.
Have you tried the new Figma UI yet? Leave a comment and tell your opinion.
